A Look Back At My Best Halloween Costumes

A Look Back At My Best Halloween Costumes

Halloween is the night where I like to go all out. It’s my one excuse to wear lots and lots of tulle or bring out my inner spooky side. There’s nothing more fun and creative for me than throwing a costume together. Whether it’s creating the individual pieces from scratch or gathering all of the clothing items available in my closet, Halloween has always been an opportunity for me to get inventive. However, I’m not going to lie… Halloween is a mere 10 days away and for the first time in years, I have no idea what I’m going to wear. That’s 2021 for you… I’m sure I’ll pull something together last minute, but in the meantime, I’m feeling a little nostalgic and thinking about some of my favorite costumes over the years {remember when I was Cruella de Vil?}. Today, I’m taking a trip back in time for a look at my best Halloween costumes. I hope you’ll join me on this ride, and rediscover some of my old costumes, too…

I felt like The Little Mermaid come to life. The best part about this outfit is the tulle train on the back of my ‘tail.’ I’ll always find a way to add tulle wherever possible. I also loved the bold sequin fabric I used for my tail, which really made my outfit shine.

Villainous, indeed. I had so much fun creating this look. While I usually make my costumes from scratch, that year, as a new mom, I didn’t have quite as much time on my hands. I opted for a costume that would take less time to create, but was equally as good, and lo and behold, my Cruella was born.

I created this costume for our Best Friend Halloween Costumes post a few years back. Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein? Classic combo, very spooky, and very easy to recreate. This costume is great because you likely have a lot of these clothing items in your closet. The Frankenstein makeup really takes this costume up a notch.

This costume was my moment to step away from my usual glitter and tulle and pay homage to a classic horror flick, The Birds. I did my best Melanie Daniels {with help from a little birdie named Liam}, and honestly, it turned out so cute. Adding the fake birds to my hair and the scratches to my face and body made the whole outfit feel much more dramatic.

It’s safe to say that Halloween is usually a ‘more is more’ kind of holiday, but this year, my simple costume turned extra spooky. I loved it. It was fairly easy to create, with just a few layers of tulle, a slip dress, and a very convincing wig.

Which costume do you like the most?

I want to you know what your costumes are for Halloween. Maybe it’ll inspire me a little bit too.
