Tuesday Ten: Our Editors’ Favorite Skincare Products
One of the perks of being blog editors is that we get to try out the latest and greatest beauty products for the Primp section of the site. From applying bold lipstick shades to experimenting with stripping shampoo, every day is a new adventure in hair and makeup. But here’s a secret: When it comes to skincare, we’re a little less adventurous. Sure, we’ll switch things up according to the season or put the latest face mask trend to the test. But for the most part, we’re super loyal to our skincare routines. So with that in mind, today we wanted to share the skincare products that have earned a permanent place on our bathroom countertops. From anti-aging serums to treatments that banish breakouts, find our tried-and-true favorites below…
1. Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser, $32
I’ve used this cleanser for a while now. I haven’t been able try any intense skincare treatments for the past year and a half because of pregnancy and breastfeeding, so I love that this gentle cleanser leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed. Made from sustainable, toxin-free ingredients, it can also be used as an exfoliating mask when left to sit for 5-10 minutes. – Lauren, Editor-in-Chief
2. Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner, $7
In a sea of fancy face masks and serums that I use, this $7 drugstore beauty find still stands out as one of my very favorite skincare products. I use it every night after washing my face (pre-moisturizer), and it leaves my pores feeling extra clean. Since the formula is alcohol-free and infused with aloe, it doesn’t dry out your skin like many other toners do. The best part though is the refreshing scent of rose petals. – Ilana, Managing Editor
3. Clinique All About Eyes, $32.50
One skincare routine I don’t skimp out on is using an eye cream twice a day. Growing up, my mom worked for Clinique for a long time and has since got me hooked on their All About Eyes rich moisturizing eye treatment. My husband (who isn’t into skincare at all) recently said that my under eye area was looking smooth and soft, so that’s my validation that it truly is working! – Jessi, Senior Editor and Lead Photographer
4. Skin Laundry Brightening Serum, $50
I’ve been using this Skin Laundry Brightening Serum on my face every night, and I seriously love it. I wake up with completely refreshed skin that looks and feels nice and even. It really gives a whole new definition to beauty sleep when you layer on the right products at night before you go to bed! – Jessi, Senior Editor and Lead Photographer
5. Derma E Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask, $12
This mask has become part of my regular skincare routine, and now that I’ve been using it for a while I can’t imagine living without it! After I use it, my face feels so clean and fresh, and my skin feels tight (in a good way!). The mask gets into your pores, cleans them out and closes them—it’s basically like having a facial at home. It’s also super gentle (I have sensitive skin), and it exfoliates when you rinse it off. It’s the best! – Rachel, Managing Editor
6. Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment, $26
Kate Somerville is my go-to for so many of my skincare issues, and their EradiKate Acne Treatment is the best product I’ve found for managing breakouts and preventing them from happening in the future. For anyone who suffers from breakouts and blemishes, I highly recommend this product! – Rachel, Managing Editor
7. Aveda Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser, $23-$62
I’ve been using this cleanser for a few years now and it continues to be my favorite skincare routine staple. It’s super gentle, lightly scented, and it’s made of plant-derived ingredients so I know I’m not putting any junk on my skin. Plus, the gel consistency even works at removing makeup including mascara and brow gel, leaving my skin super soft and clean at the end of the day. – Tessa, Editorial Assistant
8. Epicuren Discovery Ultra Rose Treat Enzyme Moisturizer, $74.50
The words “rose treat” in the name of this moisturizer truly describe how luxurious it feels. I’ve been using this Epicuren product for almost four years now, and I just can’t bring myself to use anything else. It’s non-greasy yet incredibly hydrating at the same time. And, since I have oily skin, this combo is ideal for me. It has a very faint, sweet rose scent and it makes my skin feel so smooth and moisturized. This product really is a treat! – Allison, Managing Editor
9. Kate Somerville DermalQuench Liquid Lift + Retinol, $98
After getting engaged in August, I made an effort to research and ask around about what I should be adding to my skincare routine to have a glowing, wedding-ready complexion for the big day. I spoke to women whose skincare routines I admire and experts in the field, I decided it was time to start using a product with retinol. I have loved using this Kate Somerville one. It foams up, goes on smoothly, and absorbs quickly. Retinols are meant to reduce the appearance of fine lines and uneven pigmentation of the skin, and I’ve already seen a noticeable difference in the last four months of using this product. I’m going to keep using it up until my wedding and beyond! Note: If you add retinol to your skincare routine, it’s important to be extra careful about sun exposure as the retinol makes your skin more sensitive to sun. Apply the retinol at night and apply sunscreen in the morning. – Allison, Managing Editor
10. Shangpree S-Energy Facial Mousse Cleanser, $35
This lightweight, gentle cleanser from Korea is so soothing that I actually look forward to washing my face at night! It comes in a pump bottle, which means I never use more than I need to, and it’s effective at taking off all my makeup (without having to scrub). A lot of cleansers leave my skin looking flushed, but this one has lavender and herbal extracts, which mean that I end my nightly routine feeling cool, calm, and collected. – Kiera, Editorial Intern
