Today she’s sharing a tutorial for how to DIY a tropical fruit flower vase for your next backyard soireé, inspired by Lauren’s own DIY pineapple vase in her book, Celebrate. Take a peek…
Hey everyone! It’s Lauren Gores Ireland here, and I’m excited to share a fun party planning craft with you today. Filling fruits with fresh blooms is my favorite way to turn a snack into a centerpiece. You can indulge in all your summertime favorites—like pineapples, watermelon and cantaloupe—before using the fruits as festive vases. I’ve used this idea for everything from a barbecue party, to a post-wedding brunch, to merely a decorative piece on my coffee table. A DIY project that’s both delish and decorative? Count me in! These tropical fruit flower vases are adorable and all your guests won’t be able to stop talking about them. Ready for the tutorial? Scroll down for the steps…
You Will Need:
- large fruits
- blooms
- greenery
- sharp knife
- spoon
How to Make Them:
1. Choose your fruit! Pineapples, watermelons and cantaloupe are ideal options. Turn the fruit on its side, and measure roughly two inches from the stem (or from the top of the melon). Slice the top off using a sharp knife.
2. Thoroughly clean out the center of the fruit using both a spoon and knife. A knife may be needed in thicker areas. Scoop out the insides, leaving enough room to fill the fruit with blooms.
3. Pick the flowers you’d like to place in each centerpiece. Tulips, peonies, hydrangeas and greenery are all great options. Cut the stems so your blooms pop out at varying heights.
4. Get creative! Rearrange your flowers and greenery to create your mini-masterpieces.
5. Show off your work of art. Try placing varying fruit vases on a large tray as a centerpiece on a side or coffee table. You can also make several different vases, and use them for weddings, showers and other parties. Even a single fruit vase looks incredible on its own at home or as a gift.
And enjoy! Remember, since these vases are truly fruits, they’re best used for a day-long event, rather than over a span of several days. Hope you love them on your table as much as I do.
