5 Ways To Use Microgreens

Microgreens. Those tiny little bunches of sprouts you’ll see garnishing food dishes may seem insignificant, but those greens pack a punch when it comes to nutrients and health benefits. I’ve been doing a lot of gardening this past year, and one of my favorite things to grow with the boys is microgreens. They’re easy, grow fast, and require very minimal care. They are a great seedling for kids learning to garden because they sprout quickly, and you can grow them almost anywhere (like an egg carton or even a dinner plate topped with a paper towel!). Microgreens include sunflower sprouts, wheatgrass, and pea shoots, but there are many more kinds. If you don’t know what you should use them for, then keep reading for 5 ways to utilize them in your everyday diet…

1. In Your Salads

This one’s a no-brainer, but adding them to your salads helps to beef up your meal’s nutritional benefits and also adds more fiber and crunch too.  Try adding them to this Black Bean Tostada Salad.

2. On Your Avocado Toast

Because really, what is a good avocado toast without a smattering of microgreens on top? We love extra nutrients where we can get them {and a great photo-op}.

3. In Your Smoothies

The best part about this one is that, even if you may not be a huge fan of them, you won’t really be able to taste them! Try adding a small bunch to these Pastel Layer Smoothies or this Chocolate Peppermint Smoothie. You won’t even taste the difference.

4. Even Your Pasta!

Yes, even on your pasta! I’m all for experimentation, so why not try a little on a few of your favorite pasta recipes? You’d be surprised to find that you might love it.

5. And Yes, Even On Meat

This might be a hard one to believe for some, but yes, adding some micro greens to your meat dishes is totally doable and delicious! It’s a great way to add more texture, flavor, and plus, it’s a beauty garnish too. It’s all about finding the right combination, but we guarantee that the mix can be delicious.
