Do I Need To Double Cleanse?

Do I Need To Double Cleanse?

Every week, there always seems to be a skincare trend everyone’s talking about. The current trend that’s the topic of discussion for today? Double cleansing. While the K-Beauty trend of double cleansing your skin isn’t necessarily new, there’s definitely been an uptick in people talking about and using two cleansers in their skincare routines. If you’ve seen a lot of people using two cleansers, you’ve probably wondered, do I need to double cleanse too? Well, here at Team LC, we’ve done a little research, and we found out a thing or two. Here’s what you need to know…

What Is Double Cleansing?

First things first, double cleansing is the process of cleansing with two separate cleansers to help remove impurities from your skin, while keeping it hydrated before applying other treatment and moisturizing products. Double cleansing is a Korean skincare method. Generally speaking, the first cleanser is usually an oil-based product to help remove excess sebum and oil, and the second water-based cleanser helps to remove water-based impurities like sweat and targets your specific skin issues, according to Soko Glam.

What Type of Oil-Based Cleanser Should I Use?

There are so many different types of oil-based cleansers out there, but generally you’ll see balms, micellar waters, and cleansing oils available for purchase.

It’s important to note that not every cleansing oil will work well based on your skin type, so if you have oily, acne-prone skin, try looking for cleansers that contain lighter oils, such as grapeseed, lavender, argan or coconut oil, per Dr. Joshua Zeichner, M.D., on Self.com. If you have drier skin, look for formulas with avocado, jojoba, or sunflower oils, and for those of you with sensitive skin, look for formulas that include calming oils like rosemary or camellia seed oil.

Do I Need To Double Cleanse?

You don’t absolutely need to double cleanse, however, we’d definitely recommend it, especially at night, as it helps to cleanse your skin of any heavy makeup or sweat you’ve accumulated on your face throughout the day. It also helps your treatment products better absorb into your skin, according Allure.com. If you have the opportunity, we definitely think it’d be great for you to try out.

Can I Just Use An Oil Cleanser?

Well, it depends. If you use just an oil cleanser on your face, you do run the risk of clogging your pores from not cleaning off all the oils you’ve applied to your face. However, if you’re someone that has incredibly sensitive, dry and rosacea-prone skin, and using two cleansers strips your skin too much, using only an oil cleanser may be the best route for you.
