The Masks We’ve Been Wearing
If you’re like us and have been searching for protective face masks options for you and your kids, you are probably finding that there are a lot of different options out there. So today we’re sharing the masks that our team has found and liked. While these options aren’t medical grade {those are reserved for the professionals}, the masks on this list are washable and reusable, perfect for daily use. And while shopping for masks may not seem as exciting as picking out a new purse or hair accessory, if we are going to be wearing them, they might as well be cute. Take a look at our picks below…
Adults
1. Hedley & Bennett The Wake Up & Fight Mask, $22
These washable, reusable fabric masks have an insert for a disposable filter for an added layer of protection. If you buy one, Hedley & Bennett will donate one to someone in need, and for every multi-pack purchase, 5% of sales go towards mask donations.
You can also make a quick mask at home with a bandana {like this Madewell one} and hair tie tutorial, which is one of the most comfortable and breathable options.
3. Clare V. Bowie Mask, $19
We’re in love with this cute mask from Clare V. With a Lilac Floral print and striped ties, this reusable, 100% cotton mask will keep you chic and protected at the same time. 4. Taylor Jay Cotton Face Covers, $21
Made from 100% Cotton French Terry interface, these masks from Black-owned business Taylor Jay are soft, breathable, washable, and come in the cutest colors. We love the Brick/Coral combo, how about you?
5. Printed Pattern People Face Masks, $20
Printed Pattern People’s bold printed face masks from Brooklyn-based, Black designer Shadé Akanbi are machine washable, made of 100% cotton wax print textiles, and have 100% upcycled liners.
6. here:now apparel Washable Knit Face Cover, $18
These made-to-order, tie dye, 100% face covers have a filter pocket and come in a variety of custom washes and colors. These face covers are also washable and are a great option if you’re looking for a fashionable mask print.
7. Sue Rock Originals Jersey Face Mask – Solids, $15
These solid jersey face masks from Black-owned business Sue Rocks Originals are sustainably manufactured and are made from 95% upcycled materials. Each mask is also treated with a blend of refreshing essential oils like lavender, tea tree, and eucalyptus.
8. Cotopaxi Teca Cotton Face Mask, $13
Made using surplus fabrics, these bright and colorful Cotopaxi masks are made from 100% tightly woven cotton, are reversible, and machine washable. For each mask purchased, they donate a high-quality mask to someone in need through their nonprofit partner, Mercy Corps.
9. Vida Protective Mask, $10
Made with 2 layers of 100% cotton, these Vida masks are also size adjustable and come with multi-layered filters. Best part? Because they’re size adjustable, they can fit both adults and kids ages five and up.
10. Maaji Calm 5-Pack Face Coverings, $32
We can’t get enough of these printed Maaji face coverings, which are reusable, hand washable, and too darn cute. They’re the perfect fashion masks, if you ask us.
11. Pretty Plum Sugar Face Mask, Set of 2, $20
The cutest floral prints we ever did see. These Pretty Plum Sugar masks are reusable, washable, and include a cotton lining with room for filters. These have to be some of the prettiest masks we’ve seen all day.
Kids
1. Cubcoats Face Masks (2-pack), $13
Designed for ages 4 years and up, these washable and reusable masks are made of two layers of fabric, contain an inner pocket to add filters, and are lined with 100% cotton. They also have a coordinating hoodie with bear ears too. 10% of their proceeds are donated to Feeding America for COVID-19 relief support efforts. If you’re thinking of getting some for your little ones, try making little masks for their stuffed animals to get them comfortable with the idea, like our editor-in-chief Lauren suggested.
2. Ripley Rader Look Good Do Good Rose Sequin Mask – Child, $25
Having a hard time getting your kids to wear a mask? Try this one. This fancy sequin fabric mask is lined with a super soft knit lining for comfort and extra protection. For every purchase, Ripley Rader donates two masks to at-risk patients and healthcare workers. They are also made in adult sizes too, so you both can match.
3. Character Print Masks from Etsy
Looking for a mask printed with your kid’s favorite character to get them excited about wearing one? Try searching on Etsy for options like these Disney and Paw Patrol-printed fitted face masks from seller Nosh Concept.
4. Uncommon Goods Children’s Rainbow Face Coverings – Set of 2, $25
Suggested for ages 4-10, these Uncommon Goods Children’s Face Coverings have the cutest rainbows prints that were actually drawn by kids! These masks are washable, reusable, made of cotton and elastic, and even have a little label with a big, positive message. 100% of their profits go to NYC public hospitals.
5. LittleMiaBella Tie Dye Face Masks, $7
These super adorable tie dye face masks are made of 100% cotton, are reversible and washable, and have a double layer for added protection. If you’d like to match with your kids, they also have adult sizes too.
