Do I Need to Detox My Hair?
For me, the term self-care used to exude visions of lengthy skincare routines and tranquil bubble baths. Lately, self-care looks a lot like a 5-minute coffee break and an hour of R&R after my kid goes to sleep. Regardless of what your personal grooming routine looks like, there’s one area that tends to go unnoticed until a real problem arises. So today I’m addressing something that is often overlooked in our beauty routines: scalp care. There’s so much more to haircare involved in a healthy scalp than just a regular shampoo and conditioner. Just like investing in your mind and body, your hair deserves special treatment too. Product build-up, a dry itchy scalp, and dandruff are just a few ways that your hair is trying to tell you something. If these symptoms sound familiar, you could be in need of a hair detox.
Unhealthy hair and an unhealthy scalp can be the result of a few things. One could be that your regular hair products (i.e. leave-in conditioner, hair spray, etc.) are building up and causing your hair to look… unclean. Another reason could be a change in the seasons. Winter tends to yield dry and itchy skin, and your scalp is no exception. There’s no need to be alarmed if this sounds like something you’re dealing with. There are plenty of haircare products on the market that can help you detox your hair and treat and prevent an unhealthy scalp. My good friend and long-time hair stylist Kristin Ess just added scalp care to her current line at Target and my hair has never been happier.
