I hope you enjoyed my skincare routine post. For me, facials are an important part to maintaining a healthy complexion. I typically get a professional facial every other month. While professional facials will cost you a pretty penny, there are plenty of spa-worthy products on the market that are perfect for giving yourself an inexpensive at-home facial.
Here's how you can give yourself a lovely at-home facial in just 5 easy steps:
What you will need...
- gentle facial cleanser
- exfoliating scrub
- washcloth
- face mask (clay-based for oily skin, cream or gel mask for dry skin)
- face moisturizer
Instructions
- Clean. Remove all makeup and then wash your face, neck and ears with a good facial cleanser.
- Exfoliate. Using your fingers gently rub an exfoliating facial scrub in small circular motions all over your face. Make sure you focus on areas around your nose and forehead. If certain areas of your face are oilier than others, give that section an extra scrub. Go the extra mile and do a lip scrub too! Click here for my DIY lip scrub recipe.
- Steam. There are a few ways to steam your face (over the stove, using a steamer), but the safest way is to do the washcloth trick. Fill your sink with warm water and soak a washcloth in it. Ring out the towel and then press it to your face. Repeat this 2 to 3 times.
- Mask. If you have oily skin, use a clay mask. For dry skin, I suggest using a hydrating cream or gel mask. Depending on the mask, leave it on for the suggested amount of time and then rinse completely. (DIY Alert: Making your own mask is very easy. An orange and yogurt mask is especially simple. Mix 1 tablespoon of plain Greek yogurt with the juice of about one fourth of an orange. Spread the mixture evenly over your face and rinse after 5 to 10 minutes.)
- Hydrate. Last by not least, moisturize! Smooth a nice, thick moisturizer over your face and neck.
Is your skincare routine working for you? Share your tips and tricks in the comments below (especially if you have any fun DIY face mask recipes). I will compile the best suggestions to share in a follow up post.
XO Lauren

this is great, im a firm believer in you must wash every night! My two favorite things I have tried recently are the OLAY Pro X Scrub brush, especially if you use a Biore pore strip right after scrubbing with that. As for an exfoliator I really like Loreal Deep Exfoliating Scrub with the scrublet, i usually alternate back and forth between them, and and the Biore steam cleanser. Trust me i used to have bad skin, and after being on a pill (Doryx) and Ziana topical ointment Im prescription free and have ZERO pimples.

i was also wondering if you could give tips on the best way to wash make up brushes. x x -
I loved the idea of a DIY facial at home. It becomes pricey getting professional facials but this is an excellent idea. I followed your instructions & gave myself the DIY facial & my skin felt amazing after. Thank you Lauren<3

Does Laurenconrad.com think it's ok to steal photos from people? I know the website of the girl you took that picture from. Did you ask her for permission? Or just took it?

One of the most amazing things you can do for your skin is mask! What most people don't realize is that even if you are oily (which, I am!) you can still lack hydration! So for you oiler ladies (& men), be sure and do what Lauren says... use a clay mask 1-2x a week to help absorb excess oil & unclog pores, but add a oil-free hydrating mask atleast once a week to help balance your skins hydration level. ESPECIALLY if you are using several treatment products for acne and such! <3

Love this post, Lauren!:)
My personal favourite is green tea mask.
I simply make a bowl with green tea (leave the tea bag in for 5-10 mins) let it cool down a bit and dab it on my face with a cloth or my hands. The skin get so soft after that! :)

Muslin cloths are my must have for facials and everyday cleansing. They are gentle yet they still leave your skin clean and exfoliated. The best part is that they are re-useable.

sweet post. i'm always looking for facials at home, they are a relaxing way to spend a free night. anyone have a diy solution for acne? my regular regimen is not helping anymore!

I wanted to share a budget friendly place to get a facial: Aveda Institutes. I get a 30 minute facial for only $20! It is well worth the results and relaxation time. It is cheaper because students perform the facial, but they are supervised and use all Aveda products which I LOVE! Just look online and see if there is one near you! :)

my number one secret that isnt really a secret, is NOT to go to bed with make up on! and always wash my face before bed.
I never used to think that it would make any difference, untill one day I went to bed with make up on, and the next day woke up with a RANGE of break outs.!
