With Shape Up June coming to a close, there’s one more topic to cover that I think all of us women can benefit from. If you’re at all active in your day-to-day activities, you’ve probably realized that not all sports bras are created equal. Of course, they’re all made to cater to our fitness needs, but when it comes to working out at different intensities, the right bra can make a world of a difference. After all, there’s nothing worse than putting a pause on a good cardio session because your sports bra isn’t doing its job. Can I get an “Amen”?

In today’s post I’m breaking down the three main types of sports bras by impact, or how well they’re going to support you during your workout routines. Keep scrolling to learn the difference and to be well on your way to finding the right one for you

Low Impact

Low impact sports bras are essentially one step above a bralette. Most low impact sports bras have cups for support, while some do not. This type of sports bra provides the most support for women with smaller chests—I wouldn’t advise fuller chested women to wear low impact sports bras during intense workouts. For the best results, wear low impact sports bras during activities such as yoga, Pilates, barre, and strength training.

Medium Impact

Medium impact sports bras provide medium support for women with A through C cups, and low support for those with higher cup sizes. This type of bra has more of a compression aspect, making sure that the girls are contained during a good sweat sesh. Medium impact sports bras do well during workouts such as hiking, spin classes, strength training, and cardio.

High Impact

Women with fuller chests know how difficult it can be to find the right sports bra. Well ladies, high impact sports bras are going to be your go-to from now on. This kind of bra combines the compression you need to keep the girls down, while providing the support with thicker straps and underwire that you need to get into your favorite workout class.
