our favorite vintage trends inspired by our mothers

With this month’s theme of Motherhood May still going strong, we wanted to pay homage our mamas in a new kind of way. Growing up, we all loved to play dress up in our moms’ closets. Although we may not have appreciated their sense of style way back when, we’re cracking open the photo albums and marveling at the best (and worst!) fashion moments our moms have made over the years. Spanning over four decades, there have been plenty of opportunities for chic ensembles and even some faux pas along the way.

Our moms must be taking a trip down memory lane because this year has seen an influx of trends from all across the board. What are the odds that bell bottoms, vintage hues, scrunchies, and psychedelic patterns are all popular at the same time? 2018 is turning out to be a melting pot when it comes to fashion inspiration, but lucky for us, we get to relive some of the glory days that our moms dressed their way through. Below we’ve rounded up some of our favorite vintage trends inspired by our mothers that are totally wearable this season. Keep scrolling to see what we’ve found…

‘60s

When we think of the ‘60s, we immediately think all things mod. The ‘60s also saw the rise of culottes, sheath dresses, and even slingbacks. From statement earrings to bright white booties, we wouldn’t mind taking a tip or two from this decade.

‘70s

Not only did the ‘70s see some prominent trends (hello, bell bottoms!), the color palette is pretty irresistible too. We can thank the ‘70s for peasant dresses, off-the-shoulder pieces, suede, and bold vintage stripes!

‘80s

The ‘80s really outdid themselves on so many levels. Every outfit consisted of stacked statement pieces, but in today’s roundup we’re breaking them down into more wearable versions. Blazers, miniskirts, white sneakers, and bodysuits are some of our favorite repurposed trends from this decade. We’ll leave the shoulder pads in the past…

‘90s

Last but certainly not least, we have the ‘90s. This might be the easiest decade to track down when it comes to fashion because it seems like the ‘90s are taking all of our favorite brands by storm. Crop tops, choker necklaces, metallic accessories…the list is endless. We’ll just have to channel our inner Cher Horowitz for this one.

Our moms really hit the jackpot when it comes to living out the best trends. Each decade definitely had pieces that set it apart from the rest!

Which one of these decades is the chicest?
