Holiday decorations are put away, party dresses are hung up, and the New Year is finally upon us. As we step into 2018, I have a feeling that most of us are craving new—new habits, new haircuts, new everything. Since this is a fashion-related column, it would be unwise of me to recommend going out and splurging on a brand new wardrobe, since that can add up faster than you can say retail therapy. But what I can advise you to do is perhaps add a few pieces here and there, giving your closet a rejuvenation instead of an all out redo. So to start your year off on a more fashionable note, I’ve compiled some of my favorite trends to inspire you. From this season’s favorite shoe to cozy sweaters you’ll be wearing for months, here’s how to update your wardrobe on a budget.
Floral Dresses
While it may not be party dress season, there’s no harm in keeping your frock arsenal stocked. My dream wardrobe consists of everything Zimmermann, but luckily I found a similar dress at an even prettier price point. Florals are officially evergreen.
Splurge: Zimmermann Lovelorn Floral Flutter Dress, $850
Save: Topshop Frill Detail Skater Dress, $40

Slingbacks
If there’s one shoe that can elevate an outfit instantly, it would be slingback pumps. I’m pretty sure my mom used to live her slingbacks once upon a time, and I’m happy to say that I’m following in her footsteps (literally). If you’re a fan too, then you’ll want to check these babies out.
Splurge: Kate Spade New York Ocean Slingback Pumps, $228
Save: Vince Camuto Kolissa Slingback Pump, $98.95

Lace Blouses
I’m a hopeless romantic in life and my wardrobe. Lace blouses are a definite in this season, and will add a touch of romance to any outfit.
Splurge: Jourden White Lace Blouse, $640
Save: Forever 21 Sheer Lace Mock Neck Top, $27.90

Chenille Sweaters
‘90s throwback anyone? Chenille is this season’s it fabric and boy is it cozy. From cardigans to pullovers, there are plenty of options out there. My favorite has to be this LC Lauren Conrad number though.
Splurge: Lost + Wander Maya Chenille Lace-Up Sweater, $75
Save: LC Lauren Conrad Chenille Lace-Up Crewneck Sweater, $29.99
