Team LC's favorite body sculpting workouts

As a team made up of fitness fanatics, we all like to try a wide variety of workouts. We’ll never say no to an invite to the newest neighborhood studio or a chance to try the hottest health trend. From energizing trampoline workouts to an outdoor adventure run, we’ve done it all. But there are also a few specific workouts we find ourselves returning to again and again no matter how many times we’ve done them. These are the workouts that have truly transformed our physiques, molded our muscles, and changed our bodies for the better. They continue to be challenge our strength and endurance week after week. Hear more about them below…

Sweat Garage (HIIT)

I started going to Sweat Garage for HIIT (high intensity interval training) classes a little over a year ago, and I can say without a doubt that these classes have completely changed my fitness level! Sweat Garage classes are part treadmill (distance, endurance, incline, sprints, etc.) and part floor exercises, and every single class is insanely challenging but also really fun. When I started going to SG, my all out sprint speed was a 7 (on a treadmill), and now I can sprint at a 10! For someone like me who is not a natural athlete, that is a big deal. I’m also so much stronger that I’ve ever been, which makes most other workouts feel easy to me. And besides getting stronger and having more endurance, these classes are amazing for my mental health. I might not be the happiest camper mid 90-second sprint, but once the class is over I feel like a new person. My mind is clearer, I’m so much happier, and I feel super accomplished and proud of myself. So grateful that I found this workout, and all of the amazing people I’ve met there! – Rachel, managing editor

Reformer Pilates

I don’t know how I didn’t discover reformer Pilates sooner. I’ve always taken a ton of barre, yoga, and even mat Pilates classes that you would think might have a similar effect on your body. Then, after having my second baby six months ago, I decided to sign up for a personal training session at my neighborhood Pilates studio because I had heard it was the best postnatal workout. Now, I’m obsessed and I’ve been going at least once a week ever since. The areas that have always been hardest to target for me like my butt and inner thighs are noticeably more toned. I credit the fact that the reformer keeps your body perfectly aligned and doesn’t really allow you to cheat. It ensures that you’re doing the exercises correctly and really working your muscles the way you should be. It’s also been my first time working with a personal trainer, and I think that has had a huge effect too. – Ilana, managing editor

Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Guide

To be honest, I have never considered myself an athlete, let alone naturally athletic. I shied away from the gym for the longest time thinking that I would embarrass myself trying to use all of the machines. I now can say that is an absolute misconception that most people have about the gym. Ever since my friend introduced me to Kayla Itsines’ BBG, it’s changed my workout routine for the better. When I first started the program I could barely do a burpee or finish a complete circuit. By the end of my first 12 weeks I could easily crank out all of the workouts and keep up with all of the training circuits. If that isn’t progress, I don’t know what is! This program is amazing if you want to tone, lose weight, or just keep up a healthy workout routine no matter your size or shape. BBG is truly for every body! – Jessi, senior editor and lead photographer

Orangetheory Fitness

Let me just start by saying that up until about two years ago, I was never a fitness fanatic. In fact, anyone who knew me in high school and college would laugh if I told them I actually love working out now. That said, probably the sole reason I have turned a new leaf is because I started going to Orangetheory when I moved to LA a couple of years ago. The workout is a HIIT-style group class that focuses on getting your heart rate into the “orange zone” to encourage calorie after-burn, ever after class is over. I love that it’s nothing too foreign (just work on the treadmill, rowing machine, and exercises on the weight room floor, all led by a trainer), but even after two years it continues to be challenging to me! For the first time in my life, I can actually flex and see a little muscle definition, and I truly feel stronger all around. It’s my favorite way to sweat it out, and it’s so fun I actually look forward to my classes every week. – Tessa, editorial assistant

SoulCycle

I had been a spin class enthusiast years before I discovered SoulCycle. I thought I knew what a spin class was all about, but boy was I in for a surprise! The level of intense cardio during a SoulCycle class has truly conditioned my endurance and stamina in a way I never would have expected. I’ve gotten to know some of the instructors, so if I begin to take it easy during a class, they’ll call me out or give me a look that tells me to step it up. In a way, it’s like a friend is keeping me accountable for my workout. There is also a 3-4 minute weight session near the end of the class that might not sound like much, but after my first few weeks of classes, I noticed my arms feeling and looking much more toned. I also notice my endurance is so much better in other workout classes like Burn60 or F45. It’s a workout that makes me sweat so much, which motivates me to hydrate and therefore eliminates any bloat and puffiness (major bonus for a bride!). It lets me continue to challenge myself. During my first SoulCycle class, I sat in the back row and wanted to fade into the background. Now that I am conditioned for the intense 45-minute cardio session, I book my bikes in the front row, and push myself the entire class! – Allison, managing editor

Hot Yoga

To balance out the HIIT classes I do, I got back into hot yoga about a year ago and am so happy that I did. Modo Yoga is a studio here in LA that has a bunch of different kind of classes—all in a heated room. One of my favorite ways to end a day is to wind down with a class at Modo. It stretches out my muscles, slows down my mind, and helps me reconnect with my breath. I tend to be an anxious person, and I’ve found that hot yoga helps tremendously with that. If I’m having a particularly rough day, I’ll immediately book a class at Modo, and it’ll turn things around. I also credit hot yoga with my improved balance, flexibility and posture. – Rachel, managing editor
