Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips

It’s time to say hello to September and all that it has to offer, especially when it comes to the fashion world. Fashion Week starts in a matter of days, mapping out the trends that will inspire our closets in the seasons to come. Until then, we’ve finally reached the month where we can begin rolling out the beginning of our fall wardrobes, keeping in mind that warmer weather is still on the horizon (at least until next month). I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to break out the chunky knits and my favorite pair of ankle booties. Until then I’m focusing on adding transitional pieces into the mix including maxi skirts, light sweaters, and you guessed it, white denim.

Keep scrolling to see what this month’s Style Tips have to offer and don’t forget to let me know your faves in the comments below…

1. Solids and stripes.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match this month. Since summer is sticking around until the end of the month, take advantage of your favorite bright hues. Mackenzie of Mackenzie Horan pairs a classic staple like her striped shirt with a pop of pink. Don’t forget to wear your coveted straw bag too!

2. Put a little prep in your step.
Nothing beats a classic combination quite like some worn in jeans and leather mules. Carly of The College Prepster is ready for fall in her leather mule slides and coordinating clutch. I could wear this combination all autumn long.

3. Maxi-ed out.
Maxi skirts are some of the best transitional pieces. Pair them with a summer blouse like Venita Aspen did above, or layer a light sweater over the top. This pretty printed number is definitely a conversation starter.

4. Wear white after Labor Day.
When it comes to white denim, I just can’t quit. Brooke of Brooke du jour is breaking the no white after Labor Day rule in the chicest way possible. Just add nude ankle strap heels and a breezy off-the-shoulder blouse and you’re set.

5. Black is the new black.
While I usually opt for pastels, there’s something about black pieces and accessories that just say cool. Ali of A Dash of Details is prepared for warm days and cool nights with her long sleeve and shorts combination. Plus, here’s another example that mule slides work with pretty much any outfit.

6. Try out some texture.
Break up a monochromatic look with some unexpected texture. This look found on Everything You Love to Hate is the perfect example of how fun fabric can be. I need classes on how to be this effortlessly cool.

7. Denim days of summer.
If you don’t have a denim dress in your closet yet, I encourage you to get on it. Jamie of Work Your Closet demonstrates just how cute and comfy these dresses are. Whether you’re heading to the farmer’s market or out to brunch, let a denim shirt dress like this one be your go-to.

8. Love on some leather.
It sure feels like fall is coming in hot, but the weather might not be cooling down as quickly as we’d all like it to. That said, our tip is to style fall fabrics, like leather and suede, with lightweight pieces like your favorite white t-shirt. We love how Olivia of LivvyLand pairs a short leather mini skirt with black strappy sandals and a boxy cotton t-shirt for the ultimate transitional look.

9. Find your fall color palette.
Camels, cranberries, olive greens, and chestnut browns… Yes, please! Take this month as an opportunity to curate your fall color palette by scooping up pieces in earthy, warm tones. We love Courtney of Curated by Courtney’s rich camel-colored mock neck sweater paired with black leather leggings in this photo. Let sweater season commence!

10. Back to school (or work) basics.
Nothing has us feeling more nostalgic for the days of going back to school than a comfortable preppy sweatshirt, our favorite worn-in jeans, and a pair of brand new ballet flats. Jen of Skirt the Rules has us feeling like school is back in session this month in her New York sweatshirt, distressed denim and leopard flats. This is the perfect September uniform, if you ask us!
