Healthy Habits: 3 Tips for Becoming a Morning Person

In case you missed it, our LaurenConrad.com editors recently shared an interesting study about how much sleep you need—down to the very minute—in order to be your happiest self and live your best life. Pretty fascinating, right? But, then we got to thinking… What’s the point of getting said number of Zzzzs if you don’t have the proper morning routine to back it all up?


With this in mind, all of us here at Team LC got together and found that those of us who are early birds had three interesting things in common about our morning routines. Our editors do these three things every single morning, and they attribute them to kicking the day off on the right foot. So today we’re partnering with our friends at Quaker to tell you how you can become a morning person in three easy steps, based on Team LC’s tried and true advice. So read on and quit hitting the snooze button for good…

Set a bedtime…

If you’ve ever had one of those weeks where your bedtime is completely erratic each night (8pm one night, midnight the next), you know how hard it can be to wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed each morning. And there’s a reason behind that: In fact, did you know that having a consistent bedtime every night of the week can lead to better quality of sleep and therefore higher rates of productivity the next day? Our LC.com editors who go to bed at the same time every night—between 9pm and 10:30pm—wake up with ease the next morning. Some of them even rise before their alarm clock goes off! If you want to become a morning person, our first piece of advice is to set a bedtime and stick with it. Some nights will be later than others of course, but aiming to be in bed at the same time each weeknight is a good starting place.


Plan out your breakfast the night before…

We’ve all had those mornings where we’re applying mascara as we’re running out the door, shoes in hand and coffee nearly spilling all over the place… Only to arrive at your office desk to realize that you didn’t have a bite of breakfast to help fuel your big day. Since getting out the door on time to go to work can be a mad dash, our editors recommend planning ahead as much as possible. One of the easiest ways you can simplify your morning routine is by prepping your breakfast the night before, which brings us to our favorite make-ahead breakfast: Quaker Overnight Oats. Mark it down in your calendar, and make sure you’re in bed early enough the night before to feel ready and rested to sweat it out come morning time. The best part about getting it over with?
