Lauren's tips on how to get red wine out of your jeans

As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve fallen victim to the unavoidable spill more than once. You know what I’m talking about—you’re just about to settle down with a much-needed glass of wine at the end of the day and bam! You now have a nice, vibrant red wine spot on your favorite pair of white jeans. But before you count your jeans as a loss, I can assure you that there’s hope for even the toughest of stains. Whether you’re looking for a natural home remedy or you’re looking for the perfect solution to pick up at the store in a pinch, today’s post will help you lift that stain and have you back in those jeans in no time (magic not included). Keep scrolling for multiple methods to kick that awful red wine stain to the curb…

1. Salt + Boiling Hot Water

First and foremost, avoid rubbing the red wine stain. Always blot! For this method, sprinkle salt directly onto the stain. Let the salt sit on the stain long enough to absorb as much wine as possible. When you feel like the salt cannot absorb any more liquid, pour boiling hot water over the stain to help flush the wine out. Once you’ve completed those two steps, toss your jeans into the washing machine and wash on the hot water setting. I prefer to spray the stain with a stain removing spray and add liquid bleach to my washing machine cycle.

2. The Old Club Soda Trick

You have probably heard of this second trick to lift a wine stain. Club soda helps absorb and break down wine molecules, ultimately making it that much easier to wash the wine out of your clothing. Club soda works best to remove stains if you apply it ASAP. Otherwise, you’ll have to use a little bit more elbow grease.

3. Dish Soap + Hydrogen Peroxide

This next at-home wine stain remedy involves two household products you may already have laying around. Begin by blotting out as much liquid as possible from your jeans. Then, mix three parts hydrogen peroxide with one part dish soap. Let the mixture sit on the stain until it dries, and then reapply again. The trick is to keep repeating the process of applying the mixture and letting it sit until the stain has lifted.

4. Vinegar + Detergent

Ready for another at-home remedy? Apply white vinegar directly onto the red wine stain, followed by a splash of liquid detergent. Let this mixture soak for a few minutes, and then wash your jeans on hot in the washing machine.

5. Specialized Cleaning Solutions

If you’re not into DIY-ing your own stain removers, there’s always the store-bought route, including solutions like Wine Out stain remover or Wine Away. Just spritz the red wine stain with either of these removers and let them sit for a few minutes. Wash your jeans on your normal rinse cycle and the stain will vanish.

See, that was easy. Red wine didn’t even stand a chance, especially with these handy options.
