2017: My New Year’s Resolution

Read Lauren Conrad's resolutions for the New Year

It’s hard to believe we only have three days left in 2016! I always take some time during these last few days of the year to reflect on my resolutions from the previous year and come up with some goals for the year ahead. And since I know I’m not alone, this year I have a little trick for anyone who is having trouble coming up with a good New Year’s resolution…

If you haven’t thought of your 2017 New Year’s resolution yet, start by choosing one word from the list below that has the most significance for you. Think of what exactly that word means to you, and then form a specific resolution to focus on for 2017 based on that word:

  • love
  • joy
  • peace
  • patience
  • kindness
  • empathy
  • goodness
  • gentleness
  • faithfulness
  • self control
  • steadfastness
  • persistence

The word that I chose from the list was joy. My resolution is to plan more activities that bring me joy. I need to be better about taking advantage of my days off. Whether that means playing with my dogs on the beach, taking our kayaks out for a splash, or trying out a new recipe, I am going to make sure I take the time to have fun! You might have noticed that this is somewhat similar to my 2016 goal, but there is always room for improvement.

Which word from the list above would you choose?

I challenge you to share your own New Year’s resolution in the comments so that we can all hold each other accountable.

XO Lauren

    I choose patience. Here’s to a great 2017!

  • Self control.
This year did not end exactly like wished and I don’t have anyone to blame but myself. I want to control the way I think and change the way I act with others ( for some that were nice I was to harsh and the ones that didn’t deserve to nice and generous) and just do ME. HAPPY 2017

It is great that u said! Self control keeps u away 4rm desires and violence.

  • love! <3

I choose Joy, I need to enjoy things more this year and make good memories with my family

  • Joyce

Love. I’ll show people around me, my family and friends that I love them. I’d also take chance in love. <3

  • My word isn’t on your list but it’s purpose. Last year I felt like I did everything with passion but wasn’t sure what the purpose was. This year I want to do everything with passion AND purpose.

Love your list and hope you have a joyful year!

I wrote about it on my blog

I can’t pick between steadfastness and persistence! While I’ve been in the accounting field for a few years now, I’m at a new firm and finally feel like it is a place where I can make a future. I want to really embody steadfastness at work and persistence to keep meeting the goals I want to accomplish here and in the community around me, no matter what negativity may come my way. Thank you for all of the 2016 articles, especially the Ladies who Laptop series! I love the inspiration I get from women who take chances in their fields. Happy 2017!

I choose patience too. There are so many great things ahead, I can’t wait for them to start! But that is kind of a good thing. Hope all my dreams come true and so do yours <3 Anma http://theeuropeanlook.com

I’m working on my list of resolutions as we speak, but the “one little word” I’d like to guide me this year is “SLOW”, which means so many things to me. Avoiding multitasking, slowly reading a book instead of mindlessly and rapidly scrolling through social media, spending time in the kitchen versus grabbing quick takeout, going to bed earlier and getting more sleep, so I can have slower mornings. Happy new year to you and your team! 🙂

Happy New Year and Good luck in 2017! <3

  • Arielle

This list is from the Bible (I know you added a few in, but the bulk of the list & even the order you got from Galatians) and it is a list of the gifts of the Spirit. A person can only have all of these things consistently operating together through the power of the Holy Spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” – Galatians 5:22-23 I think it’s a great list, but I think you should have cited the origin. Happy 2017 & may God bless you.

I choose self control. Because I need to stop going back to things AND people that aren’t good for me. I’m choosing to take responsibility for my life. Here’s to a brighter 2017! Xx

  • Patience would definitely have to be my word for the upcoming year. Patience with myself, my husband, our new life that will start somewhere near the end of January or beginning of February, and patience with the new role I am about to partake in as new momma to our sweet baby girl.

  • Bev

I think I have to go with “Goodness.” Maybe “Dilligence” if I were to add my own.

  • I absolutely love love this concept! I decided to talk about what NOT to have as a resolution this year on my blog haha.

  • Self control. I plan on cutting pork out of my diet starting in 2017. I have already cut out red meat. I think this is kind of a bigger step for me because red meat was never a big staple in my meal plans anyway. Wish me luck! And good luck to you!

  • Joy – like you, I want to focus more on the things that bring joy to my life, and less on the things that are making me feel stressed. Quiet, quality down time is definitely a must, and I’m going to try to do more of that in the coming year 🙂 Wishing you a great 2017 ahead <3

Patience. As I train for my first full marathon. As we work hard to save money for things like a house of our own. And also for the small challenges life brings. Patience is high on my list to work on in 2017.

    Cheers to you!

Kindness. I shared in a recent post of mine about New Year’s that something I want to continue to work towards is kindness. My husband is an unfailingly kind person so he’s my role model for this adventure!

  • Victoria Van Winkle

    I chose the word persistence.

  • Elle

Peace. My resolution is to spend more time cultivating peace – meditating more, spending more time in nature, slashing my to-do list sometimes.

  • Ester Paggi

Persistence: it’s going to be a very intense year and im persistent in not giving up on my objectives. Have a great 2017!

  • Chose the word open. Need to be more open towards others and to new opportunities!
