Guide to Mykonos, Greece

Hi everyone! It’s Selena from finduslost here. Earlier this year I left L.A. to travel the world with my other half, and I’m here to share my favorite destinations from my recent travels. I’ve compiled what to see, eat, and wear for each trip so all that’s left is for you to GO! This post is about Mykonos, which I just visited in August. I was inspired to visit Mykonos after driving through Greece in May. One side of my family has Greek roots, so this visit re-awakened my love affair with Greek food and the Mediterranean Sea.

Whether you’ve traveled to the Mediterranean or are daydreaming of a trip there soon, the island of Mykonos is worth grabbing a swimsuit and boarding the next plane to Greece for. Like every Greek island, Mykonos has its own unique charm that sets it apart from the rest. The colorful walking streets and vibrant energy of locals and visitors will make you want to wander the streets until you’re lost (and you’ll want to be, for the Instagram-worthy photos!). Mykonos has something for everyone. Tip: You’ll need four days to take it all in! So grab your suitcase and passport, because crystal-clear water is calling…

Where to Stay

Mykonos Town – If you’re visiting Mykonos for the first time, I’d recommend staying near Mykonos Town. Boheme Hotel has a boho-chic vibe, and breakfast each morning consists of over 20+ Greek-inspired dishes (bonus: you can order as many as you want!).

Platis Gialos – want to be outside of the main town but close to some of Mykonos’ most popular beaches? Platis Gialos is a great option and features authentic and affordable stays from places such as Mina Studios.

Faros Armenistis – whether you want luxury or something more budget-friendly, it’s worth checking out Airbnbs in Faros, just north of Mykonos Town.

Where to Eat

Pasta Fresca Barkia – all the pasta is homemade and incredibly tasty. We couldn’t get enough of the prosciutto tagliatelle.

La Casa – the perfect spot to sit outside and enjoy the constant flow of people passing by. The pastitsio (Greek lasagna) is extra buttery and delicious.

Ano Mera – this quaint town features a variety of traditional Greek restaurants and is certainly worth visiting. Order the loukamades (fried dough balls with honey and cinnamon) at Vardaris.

I Scream – delicious homemade ice cream. It doesn’t get much better than this on a hot day. Take a tip from the locals and try the strawberry yogurt flavor, which is made with fresh Greek yogurt.

Pepper – centrally located for a quick afternoon lunch while strolling the streets of Mykonos town. Their Greek salad and tzatziki is delicious.

Where to Drink

Kastro’s Bar – home to arguably one of the most photographed passageways overlooking the water.

Super Paradise Beach’s JackieO’ – treat yourself to a cocktail in your cabana or join the party at this beautiful beach on the south side of Mykonos. This spot is known for being gay-friendly and always busy!

What to Do

Hire a boat. Even if it’s just for an hour, it’s worth it to get out on the water and experience Mykonos from a distance.

Rent an ATV. It’s the best way to explore the island and discover hidden beaches and coves.

Wander Mykonos town. I could barely get 10 feet without taking a photo. It’s the perfect walking town to explore. Don’t miss Little Venice on the water!

Go shopping. Mykonos Town is lined with cute boutiques. I especially loved Anamnesia, which sells products featuring designs from local Greek artists and is the perfect place to buy gifts for friends and family.

Watch the sunset from the windmills. Mykonos has 16 windmills, 5 of which are perched along the coast on the southern tip of Mykonos town. It’s the perfect location to bring a blanket to sit on and cozy up for the sunset.

Visit the beaches. Whether you feel like relaxing with a book (try Paraga or Agia Anna beach) or day drinking (head to Paradise beach), there’s a beach for every mood.

What to Bring

Dresses and skirts. Mykonos is hot in summer and stays warm even after the sun goes down, so you’ll live in sundresses here.

A Hat. Don’t go to the beaches without one!

Multiple swimsuits. I couldn’t resist the water, and you won’t be able to either!

Blue and white everything. I couldn’t help but accessorize in these hues.
