Add these 10 flicks to your movie list this summer

The best thing to do on a relaxing summer night is turn on a movie and pop a bowl of party popcorn. While there are a handful of summer blockbusters that are worth frequenting the movie theater for, sometimes rewatching a classic flick is just what the doctor ordered. That’s right, I’m talking about that timeless rom-com, your favorite tearjerker, or that one movie that reminds you of when you were a kid. There’s nothing like revisiting an old favorite, especially when it comes to movies.

This summer I challenge you to a movie-rewatching marathon, starting with the 10 timeless films I’ve listed below. If you haven’t seen a couple of the movies mentioned, I highly recommend you grab your girlfriends and get cozy on the couch! Trust me when I say that they’ll instantly become your new favorites. Let’s get to watching…

heres' a few to add to your list...

1. Now and Then

Three friends return to their childhood hometown to reunite over their friend’s pregnancy. Little did they know, they’d end up reminiscing on one of the most unforgettable summers of their lives and rekindle a lifelong friendship. This is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again, and never get tired of!

2. Wet Hot American Summer

You may have heard about the hilarious remake of this classic comedy, but trust me when I say that the original is much more entertaining. This movie is set at a summer camp in the ‘80s, following a group of camp counselors as they navigate through a summer of sexual frustration, camp activities, and dealing with difficult campers.

3. Moonrise Kingdom

While this isn’t necessarily an old favorite, Moonrise Kingdom is a beloved film that you should be watching this summer. Set in the 1960s, two 12-year-olds fall in love and go on an adventure of a lifetime. Deemed as runaways, a group of quirky grown-ups do their best to find the two preteens before a terrible storm erupts on the island that they live on.

4. Forrest Gump

In my opinion, this is one of the best movies of all time. If you haven’t seen this classic American film, put it at the very top of your list… ASAP. This movie follows slow-witted Forrest Gump through his tumultuous childhood, and adulthood, as well as all of his crazy and historical experiences along the way.

5. Clueless

Seeing as how ‘90s fashion is at an all-time high once again, Clueless is an essential movie to rewatch this summer. Cher is the prettiest and most popular girl at her high school and even though she has good intentions, still comes off as shallow and conceited. Cher volunteers herself to play matchmaker and give the new girl a makeover while becoming her friend in the process. In the midst of all of the breakups and makeups, Cher finds herself falling for someone unexpected. The fashion, the music and the one-liners in this movie make it an all-time favorite of mine.

6. 10 Things I Hate About You

A modern take on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of The Shrew,” 10 Things I Hate About You is a film about how a younger sister isn’t allowed to date until her un-dateable older sister has a boyfriend. You can imagine the lengths that younger sister, Bianca, takes in order for Kat to let her guard down long enough to go on a date. This movie is the ultimate high school romantic comedy with a killer soundtrack. Plus, it stars Heath Ledger at his dreamiest.

7. Mermaids

This movie follows two daughters as they move with their unique (read: a little bit crazy} mom to a brand new town. When their mother begins dating someone new, the sisters hope that they will be able to stay in one place for once in their lives. Little did they know that this town would bring a lot of surprises and surface some unexpected family secrets. This movie stars Cher, Winona Ryder, and a very young Christina Ricci. And remember Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles? He’s in it too. Reason enough for me!

8. Troop Beverly Hills

Make yourself some s’mores and sit in front of the TV for this one. Beverly Hills housewife, Phyllis Nefler, finds herself in the midst of divorce and in need of cheering up. She soon finds herself leading a troop of Wilderness Girls and plans a night of glamping at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Of course Phyllis’s good fortune is soon interrupted. A rival troop leader plans on destroying their troop…unless they can prove themselves worthy. This movie is an all-time favorite for a girls’ night. Trust me when I say it will not disappoint!

9. Blue Crush

And here’s the movie that made all of us want to be surfer girls… This quintessential summer movie follows surfer Anne Marie as she tries to regain her title after a traumatic surfing accident. While parenting her rebellious younger sister and living the local life with her girl gang, Anne Marie ends up falling for someone unexpected. Will this ruin her chances at the Rip Masters surf competition or help her defeat her fears?

10. Dirty Dancing

Talk about a classic, Dirty Dancing will forever hold one of the top movie spots for me. This flick takes place at the Catskills resort where Frances “Baby” falls in love with the summer camp’s dance instructor (and hot bad boy), Johnny. Starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, this movie is a classic that I never get tired of. Say it with me, “nobody puts baby in the corner.”

Just writing this list out makes me want to rewatch all of these classics… Thinking I’m going to have a movie night tonight!

And I’m sure that there are many more great ones that deserve another watch, so be sure to let me know which movies you would add to the list!

What’s your favorite movie to watch over and over?
