Make sure you've got every detail right on your at-home bar cart

Warm summer nights are the perfect excuse to entertain, so why not have your friends over for a little soiree? Meeting at a bar and ordering a pricey cocktail can eat away at your wallet, which is one reason why having a well-stocked home bar will benefit you. Whenever I’m having a get-together, serving guests a cocktail or two is a no-brainer. I’m currently smitten with Moscow Mules, homemade margaritas and champagne cocktails, but I always make sure that my home bar is ready to accommodate all types of tastes.

Home bars (or bar carts!) are the perfect addition to a dining or living room. With the right accessories your bar will be the center of attention and pretty soon your friends will be referring to you as the hostess with the mostest. To help you out in that department I’ve made a checklist with all of the bits and baubles you need to have one well-stocked home bar. Keep scrolling to see what you need to stock up on…Cheers!

The Bar Cart

Let’s start with the basics. If you don’t have a built in bar, a classic bar cart is a great piece of furniture to invest in. I treat my bar cart like a décor object and love collecting flea market finds and cute accessories to adorn it. Below are some of my favorite bar cart styles.

The Glassware

In order to make that perfect cocktail you need the right glasses to serve them in. A variety of glassware ensures that you’ll be ready to serve up just about any cocktail thrown your way. Right now I’m obsessed with the blush and gold-rimmed white wine glasses from Anthropologie. Here’s what else you might need:

  • Martini glasses
  • Tumblers
  • White wine glasses
  • Champagne flutes
  • A flask
  • Shot glass set
  • Moscow mule mug
  • Decanter
  • Pitcher

The Barware

Now that you have your glasses handled, next you need the correct tools to serve up and create the style of your bar. Barware is the backbone of your bar and without these, there are no beautiful cocktails.

  • Serving tray
  • Ice bucket
  • Bar tools
  • Bottle stopper
  • Ice scooper
  • Bar spoon
  • Corkscrew
  • Stir sticks
  • Bottle opener

The Accessories

And to top it off, there’s nothing like adding a little personal touch to your home bar. Complement your décor or add a pop personality to make your bar shine. Plus it’s fun to pick up trinkets here and there to add to your collection.

  • Coasters
  • Books
  • Candles
  • Cocktail napkins
  • Matches
  • Prints
