Currently Craving: Spring Suede

Spring Suede for every occasion

Suede is one of my favorite textures when it comes to clothing. It has such a luxurious feel to it and adds a certain richness to an outfit. It’s easy to scoop up suede pieces when they’re all over the shopping scene in the fall and winter months. But contrary to what you might think, this heavier fabric can actually be worn in the springtime and summertime too. Since I’ve often heard my friends (and even some of our readers here on the site) say that it’s hard to wear suede this time of year, I wanted to show you how it’s done. At our recent fashion photo shoot I enlisted our stylist Katie Bofshever to help me come up with three looks that perfectly incorporate this texture into your wardrobe during the next few months.

Spring suede to is easy to style when you pair it with seasonally appropriate accessories. And, for any of you going to Coachella, BottleRock or Bonaroo, it’s an especially great texture to wear to your upcoming festival-season activities. Without further ado…

I’m loving the button-down skirt trend lately, so Katie and I styled this suede skirt with a lightweight white blouse. The clean white and dark brown add contrast and complement each other, and we added these great sunnies to complete this look. As for footwear, this outfit can look great with booties, sandals or even a lace-up heel. It’s the ideal outfit to wear on a date, to a concert, or even to the office if you have a casual dress code.

To create this look, Katie and I styled a Smythe top (similar) with a Frame Denim skirt (similar), Westward Leaning sunglasses and Mark. lipgloss in spicy. Shop for similar styles below:

Just add a touch…

Add a touch of suede to your spring ensemble

This look was one of my favorite outfits we created all day. I love the lace details on the pastel dress and the lace-up suede booties. When worn together, the end result is full of romantic bohemian notes. When you’re adding just a touch of suede to an outfit like this one, feel free incorporate other textures and patterns. Suede can actually act as a neutral piece in an ensemble, and these booties are especially versatile because of their gorgeous taupe color.

The perfect suede booties

In this look I’m wearing a Catherine Dean dress (similar), Tamara Mellon booties (similar), and Carissa Ferreri created my lip color with Mac lip pencil in Stripdown and NYC lip crayon in Nolita Neutral.

A little fringe goes a long way…

A little fringe goes a long way

I love a fringe detail, especially during this time of year when I can channel my inner festival fashion vibes. Suede and fringe go together like peanut butter and jelly, so there are plenty of options to choose from if you want to tap into both trends. I finished off this look with a neutral strappy sandal to let this fun statement dress speak for itself.

I hope you feel as inspired as I do to start wearing more suede this season and beyond. Aside from being such a soft and supple fabric, there are endless ways to style your suede pieces. So have fun with it!

What trends would you like to see me cover the next time we do a fashion photo shoot?
