How to Wake Up with Wanderlust Hair by LaurenConrad.com

It’s no longer a dream—you can wake up with Instagram-worthy hair in real life with this simple nightly hair hack and easy-to-follow hair tutorials. To prep, all you need to do is add texture the night before with volume rich shampoo, tousled pigtail braids, and sea salt spray. Make your hair float with ease by trying these whimsical styling tips and tricks in the ethereal spread below. But first, here’s an insider’s styling tip for LC.com readers on how to get maximum texture the night before…

Setting your hair up for maximum texture at night is always a good idea and easy to do. Follow these quick steps to make styling a dream coming morning:

  1. Wash your hair with a light moisturizing shampoo that won’t wear your hair down like Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Moisturizing Shampoo or OUAI Volume Shampoo to instantly add textured volume and wake up to bigger hair!
  2. Create natural looking waves and bend by spraying John Frieda’s Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray on damp hair and drying lightly with a professional blower and diffuser. Feel free to dry your hair completely or leave it a little damp.
  3. Lastly, work in two loose braids to further set magical waves and texture while you sleep.

Good morning, sunshine! Let’s get to some fun looks!

Step 1: Lightly spray root-lifting or texturizing spray throughout the hair (I love using Not Your Mother’s Double Take or She’s A Tease). You will be creating four roped braids for a voluminous half-up style. Form your first rope braid (on the left side, as shown here) by working with just two strands of hair. Just like a French braid, you’re laying strand over strand to form a rope effect. Pin your first rope in place at the back of your crown.

Step 2: Next, repeat this same action with strands from the middle of your head. You don’t have to work with hair directly from your center—I usually work with strands that are a little off center so the style looks more effortless.

Step 3: Repeat and create a third rope braid on the right side.

Step 4: Once you’re done forming a rope braid on your right side, create a final fourth horizontal braid with hair that’s hanging down from the three roped braids you’ve already pinned up. Connect all braids by joining them together with hairpins to set your style.

Step 5: Define curls further in the front with a curling iron and tease that back lightly with a soft bristle brush.

Step 6: Spritz the final product with setting spray. The overall look is feathery-soft, fairytale hair that’s been twisted together as if by magic.

How to get the perfect messy bun

Have bed head? No problem! Here are three simple bed head approved hair tutorials

A light as a feather messy bun

Step 1: Add root-lifting or texturizing spray throughout the hair and lift your hair into a high pony. Secure with hairband.

Step 2: Form a bun by putting your hair through your hairband one more time, but leaving the ends in the band. This technique will make your bun look and feel light as a feather.

Step 3: Next, twist your bun around so your ends lay nicely to one side, framing your face. Spray texturizing and setting spray to your ends to hold your style in place and create further dimension.

Step 4: Ruffle up your bun even more to make it appear fuller and have that #IWokeUpLikeThis vibe.

Step 5: Your bun should sit lightly on top of your head.

Step 6: Add a dainty accessory depending where the day takes you!

The perfect French braid

Three feathery hair tutorials by LaurenConrad.com

Step 1: Create a French braid as you normally would.

Step 2: Focus on lifting your hair as high as you can while building your braid. This will make your braid float as light as a feather.

Step 3: The next trick is to “pancake” or pullout only one side of your braid so it has wear-ability while still looking whimsical.

Step 4: Hold in place with volumizing hairspray.

And there you have it! Three whimsical and gorgeous hairstyles that take barely any time at all. Thank you Maritza Buelvas of Beauty For Bloggers for creating these hair tutorials and making our bedhead instantly chic.
