Get Fit: What Do You Run For?

What do you run for? Here's our answer...

Running: it’s one of those exercises we have a love-hate relationship with. On the love side of things, it does get our heart rate up, give us a boost of endorphins all day long, and is a full body workout. But on the other side, it’s definitely a challenge to wake up in the morning and hit the pavement. It’s taken a bit of practice, but all of us on team LC have actually learned to love running over time. We all try to run regularly (along with doing yoga, spin, Pilates and strength training) so that we have a well-rounded workout routine.

And when it comes to gearing ourselves up for a jog, we believe (and think you might agree) that a good playlist can make all the difference—especially one that syncs up with your running pace, like Spotify’s new Running feature. We’ve been hooked on their playlists for a while now, since they let us find new music we love. This feature actually tracks the pace at which you’re running and matches the beat of the music to your footsteps. We love turning on the “Morning Run” mix when we get moving in the AM hours. This week, it played Ed Sheeran, Christina Aguilera and Ja rule as we jogged along. You know when you have one of those runs where you lose track of time and feel like you could keep going all day? These playlists will get you in that zone. Promise!

I run for health. I notice that my body feels its absolute best when I make sure I’m running at least 2 times a week. Running motivates me to make healthier choices throughout the rest of the day and even the rest of that week. My biggest health goal is to live a long, disease-free life, and I really believe that running is a key ingredient that will help me get there. Plus, when I have good music to listen to, my run is one of the most enjoyable parts of my day! – Allison Norton, Editor

Make your run the most enjoyable part of your day!

I run to clear my head, relieve anxiety, and challenge myself. Running isn’t always the easiest exercise, but after a run I always feel calmer, more balanced, and re-focused… And I always feel like I’ve accomplished something since it can be a pretty challenging way to work out. If I’m feeling stressed, or need to figure out how to resolve something, going for a run is always the cure. Going for a run also helps me problem solve, or come up with new ideas for work. I can’t tell you how many blog ideas I’ve come up with while on a run…  Not to mention, it’s also great exercise for my dog Winnie! – Rachel Rosenbloom, Editor

I run to push myself beyond my comfort zone. I’ve always gravitated toward Pilates or barre type workouts over running. I take those classes frequently, and I’m super comfortable in them at this point. But I know that to be in the best shape possible, it’s so important that I get in some really good cardio too. I’ve been trying to run more lately, and I’ve even toyed with the idea of training for a half marathon. I know that if I really commit myself to a goal like that, I might surprise myself at how capable I really am. – Ilana Saul, Editor
