Tuesday Ten: September Style Tips

Well hello, September. Although I’m a summer girl through and through, this month brings with it some of my favorite days of the year…like New York Fashion Week! I am over the moon about my LC Lauren Conrad runway show that’s a little over one week away. I’m so excited to be part of Fashion Week this year, and hope you all tune in. With that being said, I’m kicking my September style tips up a notch in anticipation for next week’s events. Autumn is almost upon us, so I’ve pulled together pieces that will help you to effortlessly transition your wardrobe from summer to fall. Here are some of my favorite transitional looks…

1. Give it a twirl.
Just because summer is coming to a close doesn’t mean the weather is going to start cooling down immediately. We still have weeks of warm weather left, and that means you can keep your pretty pale pink dresses in rotation (especially when they twirl as perfectly as Molly’s of A Piece of Toast).

2. A case of the blues.
Anything with even a hint of a palm leaf print has been catching my eye lately, which is why I had to pause and admire this gorgeous photo on Lucy Laucht’s Instagram account (her entire feed is eye candy, take a peek). Besides looking cute standing against a tropical wall, Lucy mastered the blue-on-blue look with a pair of high-waisted Levi’s shorts, an off-the-shoulder top, and a pop of cognac with her chic bucket bag.

3. Wrap it up.
Most working girls know that a wrap dress can be your best friend this time of year. You’re transitioning from your summer wardrobe to your fall clothes, so you don’t want anything too heavy. But you always want something you can throw on in a pinch that will look professional. Scoop up a wrap dress a la Krista of Covering Bases and you’ll be good to go for the weeks ahead.

Suede and stripes. {via Blank Itinerary}

4. Suede & stripes.
Suede skirts are all the rage right now. I’m really thinking about adding one into my wardrobe. And when I spotted this photo of Paola of Blank Itinerary pairing hers with lace-up sandals and a striped shirt, I was pretty much sold.

Schoolgirl chic. {via Gary Pepper Girl}

5. Schoolgirl chic.
Even though I’m not heading back to school this year, I still get inspired to channel a little bit of scholarly style into my repertoire. A little plaid here, some structured blazers and coats there, and a pair of Mary Jane flats will do the trick. Just take a peek at Nicole of Gary Pepper Girl’s outfit above to see what I mean.

Fringe benefits. {via Look de Pernille}

6. Fringe benefits.
I’ve always believed that texture makes an outfit interesting. And fringe is one of the most fun textures to incorporate into your OOTDs right now. To me, it’s a detail that reminds me of autumn. I love how Pernille wore a fringe-adorned top to create a transitional white outfit that can be worn even after Labor Day by simply adding a suede or leather jacket.

7. Business casual.
Heading into the office during the months when summer is over and fall is upon us always gets me in the mood to shop. It’s probably because I’m nostalgic for back-to-school shopping. But the fun part about this time is that you can incorporate the latest fall trends into your work wardrobe so that it feels fresh instead of too buttoned up. I would wear this black-on-black jeans and blazer combo to the Paper Crown offices this fall. And can we talk about Carmen’s shoes? Très chic.

8. Mustard monochrome.
Autumn is the perfect time to break out your earth-toned pieces, which include oxblood red, emerald green and mustard yellow. The latter especially is a color I’m going to be channeling. I just might have to take a note from Dannon of Like the Yogurt and style a mustard yellow top with a suede skirt and a dark cross-body bag. That color combo is just so on-point.

9. Two-toned and buttoned up.
Button-down blouses are pieces that I also seem to justify shopping for. You can wear them any time of the year (with shorts in the summer, layered in the winter), and they can instantly help to make an outfit look polished. This white and blue color blocked version that I spotted on the blog Living in Color Print is a cool take on this classic trend. And those colors go so well with a red lip (don’t you agree?).

Be the bell of the ball! {via Where Did U Get That}

10. Be the bell of the ball.
Bell bottoms are about to be the comeback kid of fashion, and for good reason too. They’re a fun change from your usual skinny jeans and they flatter almost every body type. Make like Karen of Where Did U Get That and style your flares with a flowy boho top and suede handbag.

I can’t wait to incorporate these pieces into my own wardrobe for the coming season.

What trends are you currently loving for fall?

Let me know in the comments!

See you at Fashion Week!
