Tuesday Ten: August Style Tips

August is a bittersweet month for me, because it marks the beginning of the end of summer. But, with the weather feeling hotter than ever this month, you won’t find me turning to sweaters or boots anytime soon. Whether you’re enjoying summer in the city or maintaining a more mellow pace by the beach this month, it’s important to stay cool while looking chic, too. Recently, I did a little digging into the blogosphere and found some trends I really want to try this month. From channeling my inner mermaid to buying something in a bubblegum pink hue, here are 10 style ideas I plan on incorporating into my repertoire. Will you try them all, too?

Put a little prep in your step! {via Lauren Nelson}

1. Put a little prep in your step.
There’s nothing that screams American summer more than a red, white and blue outfit. And one that has a dose of prep injected into it is even better. Take a note from Lauren Nelson and wear your white jeans with a v-neck sweater, a blue button down and a chic clutch. The preppier, the better.

Rock a bold bandeau! {via Peony Lim}

2. Rock a bold bandeau.
There were so many new swimsuit styles that caught my eye this summer (halters, cut-out one pieces and scalloped suits, to name a few). But no matter what is on trend in the swim world, you can never go wrong with a bandeau. I love this bold, tropical top Peony Lim is wearing. It makes me want to take a vacation.

Upgrade your weekend errand outfit! {via Danielle of We Wore What}

3. Upgrade your weekend errand outfit.
Let’s be honest: Running errands is inevitable. Even with the help of Amazon Prime and apps like Postmates, we all still have to leave the house for last-minute necessities sometimes. So, why not look chic while doing it? This month I’m going to try to dress up my “errand outfits” a little more. Pairing a long, loose dress with comfortable sneakers like Danielle did above is is the way to go.

Travel in style. {via Jean of Extra Petite}

4. Travel in style.
Summer is a time for travel. And while it’s easy to fall victim to wearing workout clothes and flip flops on a plane (we’ve all been there…), I’m vowing to up my travel style game a little bit. Jean of Extra Petite’s flats, white jeans, a striped tee, and a denim jacket around the waist make for a functional yet cute look. Just grab your carryon and head out!

Buy something in bubblegum pink! {via Madison of Minimal Major}

5. Buy something in bubblegum pink.
This color is a fun one to incorporate into my wardrobe all year long, but I think I get especially excited about it when I know I’m going to be wearing my muted and earth tone fall hues in a few months. Soak up this month’s vibrant summer vibes with a blazer of your own, just like Madison’s of Minimal Major.

Make like a mermaid. {via Jessica of Prosecco and Plaid}

6. Make like a mermaid.
While I’ve always been a big fan of a cute bikini, one-pieces are also having a major moment this summer. I’ve been inspired to find some new, bright-colored styles to channel my inner mermaid. Click here to see some of my favorites from this summer, then be sure to do your best mermaid pose like Jessica of Prosecco and Plaid.

Be a good sport. {via Jillian Harris}

7. Be a good sport.
Summer is a time for juicy slices of watermelon, cold margaritas, days by the beach and popcorn at evening baseball games. Ok, so that’s a pretty idyllic image of summer… but if you don’t get a chance to make it to a ballgame this summer, you can at least dress like you did. For one of my favorite casual looks, grab a baseball cap and put your hair in a low pony or a loose braid (just like Jillian Harris did). With a white tee shirt and a slice of melon, you’ll be the picture of American summer perfection.

Find a cute beach bag. {via Kendi Everyday}

8. Find a cute beach bag.
I’m a big fan of straw beach bags, but I actually think that a good one is hard to come by. I’m talking about one that stands strong over the course of an entire summer (and looks great with any outfit, too). This one featured on Kendi Everyday caught my eye. I think I might have to put it in my shopping cart and just see what happens…

Double up on your denim! {via Adorned With Love}

9. Double up on your denim.
I’m really liking the looks of the jean skirt trend. It has been reinvented since the early 2000’s (thank goodness), and now I’m seeing more of a mid-length, pencil skirt style. I love how Jenna of Adorned With Love created a denim-on-denim look by pairing her skirt with a chambray on top. It’s perfect for a weekend of exploring in your favorite city.

Perfectly palmy. {via A Pinch of Lovely}

10. Perfectly palmy.
It’s no secret by now that my team and I love anything with a palm print (see our entire blog post about it here). And that includes this adorable outfit on Krystal of A Pinch of Lovely. Just pair your palm pieces with bright red accessories and you have yourself a tropical look that’s made for a summer night out.
