Tuesday Ten: June Style Tips

As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers… And, in my opinion, June brings sunshine and long summer days. After all, this month does bring us the longest day of the year (June 21st, to be exact). With the beginning of summer in mind, I’ve been doing a little bit of closet reorganizing in my spare time. I like to move the pieces I will be wearing during the current season to the front of my wardrobe so that I already have some outfits ready to put together. From ladylike separates to bright bathing suits, here are some of the styles I’ve been inspired to try this upcoming month…

1. Luck be a lady.
I love the look of pairing a fitted, soft sweater with a pretty pleated skirt. For luncheons, special events, or Sunday summer brunches, I’m planning on having my most ladylike separates on constant rotation this month.

Sport a shifted dress. {How cute is Mara from M Loves M?}{via M Loves M}

2. Sport a shift dress.
One of the best things about dressing during the summer months is that us girls can simply throw on a dress and a pair of sandals and head out the door (way easier than piling on winter layers, don’t you think?). Our girl Mara of the blog M Loves M pulls off the shift dress look perfectly for a summer evening happy hour.

The weather today is 75 and palmy. {We adore Atlantic-Pacific!}{via Atlantic-Pacific}

3. 75 and palmy.
A classic palm leaf print is so quintessentially California to me. It reminds me of the iconic wallpaper in the Beverly Hills Hotel! Wear this print on a skirt, a top or even on your accessories this month. It will give your entire look a little dose of the tropics.

4. Who wears short shorts.
Wearing shorts that come in fun colors and patterns has become a go-to style move for me. I particularly love how Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad pairs her robin’s egg blue shorts with a tweed-patterned top. This outfit can be dressed up or down, so it’s incredibly versatile.

Wide brimmed hats are a summer essential. {Just ask Sincerely Jules!}{via Sincerely Jules}

5. Grab your hat.
Going on a vacation any time soon? Be sure to pack a wide-brimmed hat like Julie of Sincerely Jules did for her adventure on the Italian Coast. I love the way she styled hers with a striped romper. Ciao bella!

6. Get smitten with swimwear.
Let’s be honest: June is really the time to stock up on swimwear. Whether that means a fun, patterned one-piece or a cool, classic bikini, you’ll be glad you invested in a new swimsuit when July and August roll around. I love this Trina Turk one-piece Amber of Barefoot Blonde is wearing above.

Wear a midsummer midi skirt. (A Home in the Hills twirls to perfection}{via A House in the Hills}

7. Wear midsummer midi skirts.
While I do gravitate towards wearing white during the summer months, I think that an all-black ensemble can look chic any time of the year. Especially one that involves a sheer, full midi skirt, like the one Sarah of A House in the Hills wears above. Wear yours with a black cropped t-shirt, strappy heels and a printed purse.

8. Have a pants party.
More and more lately, I’ve been noticing the long, flowy pajama pants look on my favorite online shopping sites and in stores. I think I would style this trend like Arielle of Something Navy did above: with a fitted cropped sweater and long, loose waves. The entire look is very bohemian (not to mention it looks incredible comfortable too!).

Whites and lighter colors are our favorite summer staples. {How cute are these pants worn by Song of Style?}{via Song of Style}

9. Lighten up.
As I mentioned earlier, I do love to incorporate whites and lighter colors into my wardrobe during the warmer months of the year. These white, relaxed, distressed jeans on Aimee Song of Song of Style are adorable. I think I’m going to have to find a pair of my own and make them a staple in my wardrobe! The options below are some favorites that I’ve found.

10. Wings of an angel.
With the beginning of summer upon us, I can promise you one thing: An ethereal white maxi dress is one thing you will be glad you have in your closet. This one worn by Mary of Happily Grey is from Urban Outfitters (find it here), and it’s so light and airy. It looks heavenly, if you ask me.
