Dear LC readers,
It’s us again, the ladies of the Skinny Fat Girl Diary. Has anyone else been distracted by the Fifty Shades of Grey billboards? This might only be in LA, but you can’t throw a rock without hitting a suggestive poster. While this might be disturbing to some (and cause a few accidents), we can’t help but be inspired by Dakota Johnson. No, not the handcuff kind of inspiration, but the natural, no make-up look she’s been sporting (e.g. her February Vogue cover).
After coming off the holidays and feeling the stress of the work routine again, our skin could use a boost before we go foundation free. So, we decided to whip up some homemade facemasks. Going with a gaggle of girls to meet Mr. Grey this Valentine’s Day? Or enjoying a date night with your honey? These DIY facemasks are the perfect way to kick start your au naturel beauty.
Here’s how to make our Bananas & Cream and Strawberry Rose facemasks…
Bananas & Cream Mask
Want ageless skin? The rich nutritional content in bananas soothes irritated, sensitive skin. When you add antioxidant filled honey, you’ll be amazed by it’s ability to absorb and retain moisturize. “Milk” cleansers are all the skin-care rage in recent years. A simple cream, loaded with vitamins and minerals, can shrink pores and create smooth, radiant-looking skin.
- ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 banana
- ¼ cup honey
Blend the banana and honey in a food processor, then slowly stir in the heavy whipping cream. Paint on your face, sit for 10-15 minutes, and rinse off with lukewarm water.
Strawberry Rose Mask
We’re not going to lie; it just wouldn’t be right to have Valentine’s Day facials without the color pink. Thank goodness that our coloring agents—rose petals and strawberries—are actually good for your skin too! Strawberries have salicylic acid in them, which is the perfect acne-fighting cleanser ingredient. Rose petals, rose water, and Greek yogurt help to soothe, tone, and balance the skin. Not to mention, the rose ingredients make the mask smell heavenly.
- 2-3 strawberries
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 Tbsp rose water
Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor for about 10- 20 seconds (you don’t want it too runny). Paint on your face, sit for 10-15 minutes, and rinse off with lukewarm water.
Are you going to give these a try?
Here’s to many seasons of beautiful skin! Happy Valentine’s Day!
