Hey ladies, it’s Anna again from Fash Boulevard. Even though the holidays may be over, winter is definitely still sticking around for a while. It’s that time of year when little things like sleeping in fuzzy socks and heating the car pre-departure become cold weather survival essentials. It’s also the season when we trek back into what always feels like an exciting new territory known as the coat section: a scarce and mostly forgotten division of our favorite department stores that rarely lures shoppers for the majority of the year. To help guide you through the variety of styles populating the racks this season, I’ve selected my five favorite styles.
Burgundy Coat – LuLu*s, Skirt – Antonio Melani, Turtleneck Sweater – J.Crew, Boots – ModCloth
Cue the drama: an oversized lapel is a sure-fire way to stand out from the rest of the outerwear crowd, especially when touting a rich wine hue. Be sure to look for a coat with a belted sash at the waist for a fitted look that will keep you well covered on a blustery day without the extra bulk.
Coat – ModCloth, Turtleneck – J.Crew, Denim – Dittos, Clutch – Target, Heels – Steve Madden
Channel your inner Olivia Pope in a ready–for-any-event white collarless coat. This is one of my favorite styles. Not only does a collarless coat always look extra elegant, but they’re perfect for layering and spotlighting necklaces and scarves.
Coat – LC Lauren Conrad, Sweater – J.Crew, Midi Skirt – TJSEWER, Heels – ShoeDazzle
This LC Lauren Conrad polka dot coat manages to feature two of my favorite details, an understated jacquard pattern and a Peter Pan collar, which always adds a subtle retro vibe. If you’re a fan of textured looks, a jacquard jacket will always deliver.
Cape – ModCloth (also available here), Turtleneck – Moods of Norway, Handbag – Wallis, Pants – Lonnys (similar here), Heels – Prima Donna
When it comes to elegant outerwear, the crown always goes to the girl draped in a chic cape. When searching for the perfect cape, be sure to look for appropriately sized arm openings that provide plenty of room for movement. Feeling trapped à la a straight jacket is never worth the look, no matter how fabulous it may be.
Coat – LuLu*s, Pants – Dittos, Heels – Prima Donna, Clutch – LoveCortnie, Top – Chaps
For those lucky enough to live in areas with true winter wonderlands, a hooded coat is a necessity that will keep you looking chic while also protecting you from the winter elements. Opt for styles with a removable faux fur collar, which will add a stylish accent like this one from LuLu*s, which also features oversized lapels, another of this year’s most popular details.
