Happy November! A new month means a new opportunity to gather some fresh style inspiration. Since temperatures are dropping, I’ll be busting out my jackets and cold weather accessories (scarves, faux fur vest, and hats) and practicing my layering skills. Here are 10 of my favorite styling ideas to inspire your autumn attire this month…
1. Fall for orange.
Halloween may be over, but orange is still one of the best colors of fall. Add a pop of this cheery hue to your look with a color-blocked jacket.
2. Go mad for plaid.
Plaid is having a big resurgence this fall, and I love its slightly grunge, retro appeal. A plaid skirt, like the adorable green and black option pictured above, looks great with a turtleneck, tights and boots.
3. Embrace fringe benefits.
Fringe enjoyed major popularity a few years ago at the height of the boho movement, but now it’s popping back onto the fashion scene in a more sophisticated manner. Try pairing a fringe jacket or vest with sleek separates for an eclectic-chic look.
4. Experiment with lengths.
While fall presents a lot of opportunities to play with texture, it’s also fun to mix different lengths. Try a cropped sweater over a midi dress, or take inspiration from this great look and layer a jacket over a long vest and skinnies.
5. Brush your shoulders off.
The collarbone is one of the most delicate (and sexy) parts of a woman’s body. Show yours off with an off-the-shoulder dress or shirt this fall. To keep the look seasonally appropriate, choose a dress with long sleeves and pair it with closed-toe shoes.
6. Be of suede persuasion.
Classic camel-colored suede just never goes out of style. Try a suede skirt or streamlined jacket for a modern take on this retro-inspired look.
7. Borrow from the boys.
November is the perfect time to “borrow” from the men in your life. Pair an oversized men’s cardigan with ripped skinny jeans for a casual cool ensemble.
8. Embrace sporty separates.
I love the subtle sporty influences of this black and white ensemble. To keep your sporty attire from looking too casual, pair it with delicate heels. If you live in a cold weather locale, this would look great with a denim jacket or bright winter coat.
9. Layer your lace.
Don’t feel like you need to put your favorite summer dresses away just because it’s fall! Instead, layer lacey slips under a fuzzy sweater for a feminine, cool look.
10. Let your turtleneck do the talkin’.
I find this quirky ensemble so inspiring. I love the concept of layering a turtleneck under an off-the-shoulder shirt or dress. Also, how darling are those burgundy bow heels? You know I love a good bow.
