Happy first day of July, everyone! Can you believe how fast the summer is flying by? I’ve been trying to fill my summer with as many activities as possible. Not to mention wearing all my favorite summer outfits before fall hits (which will come sooner than we think). Here are a few summer style ideas I’ve been trying myself and encourage you to do the same this month…
1. Go gingham.
This classic, ladylike pattern has a retro feel to it, especially in the summer. I adore it on bathing suits lately, and it’s just as cute in the form of a midi skirt.
2. Patriotically polished.
If you have any favorite red, white and blue pieces, now is the time to sport them. Even the hint of Americana details is a fun way to feel festive before and after the Fourth of July. In fact, feel free to mix and match all three colors from now until Labor Day (and beyond…).
3. Hot tropics.
Unless you’ve been avoiding online shopping for the past few months, you are probably quite aware that tropical prints and details are all the rage this season.
4. Channel east coast prep.
Depending on which coast you’re spending your summer on, it can be fun to channel the styles from the opposite side of the country. For example, adding a little east coast prep to my generally “California girl” wardrobe keeps things fresh and feels like I’m on a stay-cation.
5. Play by the mules.
Mules are the heel of 2014, and this summer is a great time to try out the trend for yourself. Instead of wearing a dark, heavy looking pair that works in the wintertime, try a style that is more natural and light. I love this pair with the clear strap and the touch of leopard.
6. Be a bathing beauty.
While triangle bikinis and bandeau tops are all good staples, the high-waisted bathing suit is making a comeback… and I’m glad it is. This trend channels old school bikinis, and it will make your legs look longer than ever. Click here to see more swimsuits you will wear all summer long.
7. Get all dolled up.
Summer tends to be a pretty casual season, for the most part. But when the occasion for dressing up does arise, choose a dress that’s playful and shows a bit of skin. I love the look of a backless maxi in a pretty jewel toned color that will show off a summer tan.
8. Bring out your bucket bag.
This popular handbag shape adds a very unique structural element to any outfit. Choose one in a light or neutral color that will go with your summer whites and pastels.
9. Be breezy.
So, you have a favorite, lightweight summer top. And you have a flowy skirt you want to wear all season long. Go ahead and pair them together! The great thing about summer is that you can throw on your breeziest outfit and look like you’ve just stepped off the beach. Take advantage of it.
10. Nautical or nice.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: There’s never a moment where navy and white stripes feels overdone in the summer. Some months, I find myself wearing mostly navy and white every day. The nautical look feels fresh and it truly never gets old.
Which of these style ideas ring your bell?
I hope you have a favorite you’re excited to try!
