Unlike with a wedding or bridal shower, friends and relatives are less likely to order straight off the registry for a baby shower. That’s not to say that some of the more practical (and less creative) guests won’t still purchase an item off the couple’s list. But many baby shower attendees would much rather pick out an adorable, teeny tiny outfit than a boring old car seat adapter. (Pretty understandable, right?) So with that in mind, I’ve rounded up some of the cutest baby gifts around. These gift ideas are just as fun to buy as they are to receive, and I know I’d love to unwrap any one of them at my own shower next month (hint, hint, friends and family!). And don’t you worry fellow mamas-to-be, I’ll be sharing the more practical registry essentials in a later post…
1. The Little Market White Bunny, $26
Every baby needs a few favorite stuffed animals. This sweet bunny is handmade by women artisans in Peru, and sold in Lauren’s fair trade online shop, The Little Market.
2. Noli Noli Wooden Rattle, $32
Made from sustainably harvested wood and filled with adzuki beans, this wooden rattle is so much chicer (and more eco-friendly) than all of the plastic toys out there.
3. Freshly Picked Handmade Moccasins, $60
Is there anything cuter than a baby in mini mocs? I think not… As soon as I saw these tiny shoes from Freshly Picked, I knew my future babe would have to have a pair.
4. Imse Vimse Organic Flannelette Washable Wipes, $15 for a 12-pack
This gift is practical, but also much nicer than a plain old pack of cloth wipes. They also come in shades of blue and green for a baby boy.
5. Bringing up Bébé by Pamela Druckerman, $14, and Great With Child: Letters to a Young Mother by Beth Ann Fennely, $12
Everyone loves gifting their favorite children’s books for the baby. But I think it’s also a lovely idea to gift the mama with a book for her to read during the final weeks. With so many other anxiety-inducing parenting tomes out there, these two books are heartwarming, honest, and have brought me the most comfort. I highly recommend checking them out.
6. Timi & Leslie ‘Charlie’ Diaper Bag, $160
These vegan leather diaper bags may look just like chic handbags… but they come with literally everything you need for a day out with baby (changing pad, insulated diaper tote, stroller straps, etc.).
7. Oeuf Ruffle Diaper Cover, $20
This is the cutest little cover-up for baby girl to wear during the warmer months. It fits over a cloth or a disposable diaper.
8. Zoe B Organic Sleepy Hat, $18
Not only is this little hat the cutest cap around, it is designed to keep baby happily asleep in the stroller, car, or anywhere else. It is breathable, super soft, and made of 100 percent organic cotton.
9. The Little Market Black Knit Baby Sneakers, $24
Like the bunny, these booties are also hand-knit by women in Peru. They’re adorable, and you can feel good knowing that your purchase helps support a fair trade marketplace.
10. Sophie La Giraffe Teething Toy, $24.50
Made in France from BPA-free natural rubber, this cute teether has become iconic for mamas and babies everywhere.
Tip: If you’re looking for a mix of practical and fun, I suggest purchasing a smaller item from this list, like the rattle or The Little Market bunny, and pairing it with a practical item off of the mama’s registry. That way, your gift will be the best of both worlds.
