Letter From Lauren: May Wedding Bells

Letter From Lauren: May Wedding Bells

Happy first day of May, everyone! I’m pretty excited about this month’s theme on LaurenConrad.com, and I think you will be too. As some of you might know, May marks the real start of wedding season. (Since the weather is so nice and it’s easier to take vacations, many people choose to get married from now through the fall.) And because I’m planning my wedding to William, I decided to devote a whole month on the site to everything weddings.

Along with the usual fashion, food and fitness features, I’ll also be sharing my tips and tricks for planning your big day. We’ll discuss everything from tips for brides on a budget to DIY bouquet and boutonniere tutorials. And if you’re not the one getting married, you can also expect a Ladylike Laws post on wedding guest etiquette. On another note, I’ll be reviving my popular Bikini Boot Camp plan, which can double as a wedding fitness regimen. Whether you’re married, planning a wedding too, or just dreaming of your special someday, I hope that you’ll find this month’s wedding content fun and informative.

Do you have any blog requests you’d like me to cover this month?

Leave your ideas below!

One of my dear friends got engaged recently and I’m standing up in the wedding. Could you include some sort of post on the etiquette of those standing up? What is expected of me, for instance?? Also, how about some details on your and William’s love story? <3 I'm looking forward to this month's romance related posts! :)

  • pretty little things

a timeline of things to do once you get engaged would be helpful! thanks :)

Can’t wait for all the wedding posts! One of my closest friends is getting married next May and I’m the maid-of-honor so I need all the help I can get!

  • Christy

Where is this dress from? I love it!

  • April Farley

I would LOVE it you talked a lot about low budget weddings. :)

While we’re on the topic of weddings, maybe a post about what to wear to a wedding?? I’m going to a wedding in a few weeks and a lot has changed with wedding dress etiquette. I see a lot of guests wearing black dresses which used to be a huge no-no.

I was thinking about wearing a black dress with these shoes. What do you think?

Low-cost gift ideas for your bridesmaids and groomsmen. I would really love to treat my bridesmaids to some wonderful gifts, but I’m on a budget. And my fiancé wants to get his groomsmen something unique. I would appreciate a post on that! Thanks Lauren :)

also low cost gift ideas for those attending a wedding!

  • Marcela

I would like you to post about what to wear as a guest. From hair to shoes. That would be a very helpful one.

    • http://www.newlymynted.blogspot.com/ Stephanie McDonnell

A great suggestion. My bff’s bro got married recently and their step-mother insisted on wearing, not just a white dress, but her own white wedding dress. LOL!

agreed! i was just about to post this.

    • Zoe

      This would be so helpful!!

The “proposing to your bridesmaids” and the proper etiquette of making you maid of honor stand out without taking away from the pride! So excited for this month :)

Bridal shoes & accessories! Affordable wedding shoes are so hard to find, white/cream/blush/pink etc. Also, wedding music, especially the father & daughter dance

I recently attended an outdoor wedding when it was really cold. I searched and searched for outfit advice and just went with my own ideas. Planning outfits for all different weather would be an excellent post.

Great places to elope! (For those of us that don’t have the spare time or money to plan a big shindig)

  • Lauren

I am getting married this year (congrats on your engagement!) and I would love to see a post about gracefully handling bridal party drama (who to pick, how to ask, managing conflict between bridesmaids)! Thanks, lauren

  • Katrice

So Excited for this! I am engaged and trying to plan on a budget. I can’t wait to hear your tips! I am specifically looking for tips on finding the best photographers, hair and makeup, etc., when you are planning an out of state wedding.

  • Kenz

Can you discuss ways to hang in there when a best friend asks you to be a bridesmaid and then all she wants to talk about is herself while she’s engaged? I’m in that situation and it would be great to get other peoples perspectives on how long to hang in there and ways to bring her back to earth, when your friend doesn’t treat you like a friend anymore because she’s so immersed in her wedding. Thanks! :)

  • Lizzie J

Gifts for the bridal party. We are having a destination wedding in June, so we decided part of our gift would be to chip in for the expense of their hotel cost. We feel like although that’s a very pricey gift on our behalf, we still want to give them an additional and meaningful gift but on a budget.
Another hot topic for us has been the bachelorette party! Where to go, what to do, traditional ideas vs nontraditional ideas.
And what to wear for the rehearsal dinner!

  • Vanessa

AHHH!!! I love this! I am currently planning my wedding and I’ve already gotten so much inspiration from here and your Pinterest, this is the icing on the cake! 😀 I can’t wait!

  • Laura C

I’d love for you to cover coloured wedding dresses. I’m being very ‘untraditional’ and choosing a pastel colour!

  • Marcy

I am getting married Aug 2nd. We are having an outdoor rustic boho chic mountain weekend wedding. I would love to know how to pick invitations, outdoor lighting that can still fit & look romantic & elegant but still rustic, etiquette for guests pooches, organic inexpensive gifts for guests, snacks for the weekend like quick finger foods & if you could just pick out the dress for me too that would be amazing!! The one thing I learned is you have to do what you want & love for the day. It is very easy to get overwhelmed & start choosing things to please others not yourself or your groom, remember it’s your day & everyone is there to celebrate y’all. It’s still hard to not want to want to please them. Congratulations!!!!

Oh yay! I am excited for this month!

  • Catherine

Yes! I agree with the previous comments about gift ideas for bridesmaids and groomsmen… and even for parents and in-laws! I have no idea what to get for the members of my wedding party as thank yous… I’ve been looking online, but everything I’ve found seems so kitchy. I want something that they will love and can use/wear again and again.

  • Jessica

Advice or rules on giving a maid of honor toast (length of speech, what stories to share, etc.) would be great. I need to make one at the June.

  • Alisha

Music suggestions would be fantastic. My groom and I have fairly eccentric music tastes that our guests don’t share so we’re a little clueless and we won’t be having a DJ or a band.

  • Tawny

So excited about this! I am just starting my own wedding planning! Looking forward to some great tips!

  • Alexandra

Yes! Im getting married in san clemente next may, but would love some classic-meets-beach style inspiration for my decor for cereomy and reception! I love your style, how its classic beach chic! its how i want my wedding <3

Also, would you do any contests on here?

Yay, can’t wait! I’m just curious what you think a guest should wear so they don’t show up over or under dressed!

  • Shelaine Morrison

I would love to see some more rules on the etiquette for guest to wear. I have 2 weddings in the next couple of months and I still haven’t bought anything. I am having hard time because it is so hard to pick something since they are both outside and it can easily get up into the mid 100s here. I also heard that guest should not wear red… What is trendy for wedding guest this season? If you wear a floral and it has white back ground is that considered too white? What kind of hats are considered appropriate? And if you do wear a hat but don’t want to wear it into the night what are some things you can do to avoid hat hair?

  • Angelina

Heads up– the wedding to William link is broken!

  • http://browneyedtwentysomething.wordpress.com/ Amanda Gernentz

I would like to hear about how to choose your bridesmaids, especially if you have a lot of girlfriends!

  • Juliana

What brides should wear according to their body type! So excited for May!!!

  • http://www.raven-locks.blogspot.com Raven Locks

That dress you’re wearing is so cute! It would be nice to see what kind of gifts a bride would actually want to get. Since you’re going to get married…perhaps you could give us some insight on what kind of gifts are perfect for weddings. (ie: what to get a friend who’s getting married, vs a cousin, or a co-worker).

Why do you think that so many celebrity marriages end in divorce? Do you think girls marry simply because they have wedding fever? You recently were interviewed and mentioned that it was difficult to get
your fiance’ to spend more than ten minutes focused on wedding plans. What advice would you give to girls like me that look up to you when it comes to picking the right marriage partner? How do you know when you truly love someone??? Thanks :)

  • Tracy

I would like to see a post about guest formalities!

  • Cassidy Short

Cannot wait to see how Lauren’s wedding turns out, no doubt it will be stunning! Cheers to wedding season!

  • http://www.newlymynted.blogspot.com/ Stephanie McDonnell

While you’re doing the etiquette, I would suggest a post about wedding party etiquette. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people lose bridesmaids and groomsmen because they accepted the position but flaked on the responsibilities.

  • Lizzie

Hi LC and Team LC! What’s the proper etiquette for attire when your significant other is in the wedding party? My boyfriend is the best man in two weddings and a groomsmen in 2 more (apparently all of his hs and college buddies decided getting married back-to-back would be cool, haha)…so what should I be wearing? Should I try to match the colour scheme or just wear wedding appropriate attire? thank you! :)

  • Katelin

instead of just posting entries for traditional weddings, why not add some tips for elopement. I’m looking to eventually take that route with my guy :)

I’ve seen so many stressed out brides over the years. Maybe a post about dealing with the stress of a wedding and how to avoid them?
