Eco-Chic Entertaining Tips

Happy Earth Day, everyone! Every single day I do my best to make eco-friendly choices. I do this by making simple changes like bringing one of my XO(eco) shoppers to the farmers market, packing up my lunch in reusable zip snack bags, or wrapping up my leftovers in a reusable fold-up sandwich wrap. It’s so important that all of us do our part to protect the oceans and environment. And I promise, it’s very doable!

Spring is here and summer is on its way, which means I’ll be doing plenty of entertaining. So with that in mind—and also to celebrate Earth Day—I thought I’d share my tips and tricks for entertaining the eco-chic way. Check them out below, and make sure to read all the way to the end for details on Blue Avocado’s Earth Month flash sale.

Eco Shop

When shopping for your goods at a farmer’s market or grocery store, make sure to bring your reusable bags. I always have one or two of my (eco) shoppers in my car, which are easy to grab on the go. They come in some pretty cute patterns, and when you’re all done shopping, they zip up into tiny little pouches for easy storage between trips to the market. Also, I keep an (eco) hip pod in every bag I own. The reusable bags at your local grocery store will work, too. Just make sure that the trunk of your car is always stocked with bags, so you never have to answer the question, “Paper or plastic?”

Pack It Up

When bringing a pie, lasagna or any other dish to a party or friend’s house, put it inside an eco food carrier instead of wrapping it up in wasteful plastic, tinfoil or Saran wrap. This way, your dish will stay warm (these carriers will keep your food hot or cold for up to 6 hours) and won’t waste any paper or plastic in the process. Also, because of the way these travel bags are designed, they make transporting a hot and heavy dish as easy as pie…

BYOB

If you plan on bringing your own cold beverage, make sure to put it into an insulated wine carrier first. That way, you can keep your drink chilled without having to find a place for it in the fridge. Plus it’s a cute and easy way to carry your favorite bottle to a friend’s house.

No Paper or Plastic

One way to entertain the eco way is to say no to paper and plastic goods. Using plastic utensils and paper plates may shorten your cleanup time, but it’s so much better for the environment to always use dishes, silverware and napkins that you can wash and use again. If you’re looking for great glassware for entertaining, head to The Little Market. We have tons of beautiful glasses, pitchers, serving platters, dishes, and napkins that are perfect for entertaining. You can also invest in a second set of inexpensive Ikea dishes if you don’t have enough pieces of your normal dinnerware to use for large parties and gatherings.

Leftovers

Whenever I entertain, I always send my guests home with leftovers wrapped up in reusable zip bags, instead of using plastic bags or containers. I love the idea of sending my guests home with something that they can reuse over and over again, and that may get them on a slightly greener path.

And now for the best part… Blue Avocado is running an Earth Month flash sale on all of my XO(eco) products right now! Head to their website and use code FLASH25 at checkout to receive 25% off your purchase.
