For today’s edition of Wedding Bells, Lauren’s friend Jess of Carats & Cake shares 10 easy ways to make your wedding stand out from the rest. Enjoy!

Hi LC.com readers! It’s Lauren’s friend Jess from the wedding site Carats & Cake. With spring finally here, wedding planning season is in full swing! Every couple wants their wedding to be unique, but with the abundance of inspiration it can be challenging to mix it up.  Below are a few tips on how to make sure your big day stands out…

Wedding Bells: How to Make Your Wedding Unique

1. Push The Envelope
Your save the date and invitations are the first opportunity to show off your style as a couple. Take advantage of this moment to go beyond your basic paper invite by playing with color, materials or even the delivery method. Tip: Even if your bridal style is on the classic side, you can still work with unique paper textures or materials like leather. Just keep the color palette timeless.

2. Don’t Be Afraid To Wear Color
Color has been all over the bridal week runways as designers experiment with blush tones and light grays. Whether you opt for a subtle shade or something more adventurous, anything other than white will definitely stand out. Tip: If you decide on a non-white wedding wedding dress, stick to a more classic shape to keep it bridal.

3. Set the Stage
It’s hard to go wrong with a stunning floral backdrop for your “I Do’s.” However, you can mix it up by using furniture, fabric or even a single chandelier. Tip: Work with your event designer or florist to see what décor used in the ceremony can be repurposed for the reception.

4. Throw Yourself A Flower Shower
After the ceremony, guests are often handed rice or flower petals to throw at the newlyweds. Let your friends and family sit back and relax and rent some confetti cannons to shower you for your first kiss. Tip: Let your photographer know, so he or she can be ready to capture the moment.

7. Personalize the Entertainment
It’s not a wedding without dancing and music (and cake!). But that doesn’t mean your entertainment has to be like everybody else’s. Work with your wedding band and or DJ to help figure out how the set list can really capture you and your beloved. Tip: See if your entertainment can play a few of your favorite band’s hits during dinner.

8. Do Dessert
Have fun with your dessert course by serving your favorite sweet indulgences (even if that doesn’t include cake). Tip: If you aren’t serving cake but still want to have a “cake cutting moment,” work with your caterer to help you fake it by making a cake with one tier that can be sliced (or smashed in your love’s face) and two other tiers made of cardboard.

9. Wedding Favors
Thank your guests for celebrating your new marital status by sending them off with something special. Adding a handwritten note to each gift is a great personal touch. Tip: Instead of spending a little money on each guest, think about donating the entire sum to charity and giving guests a card letting them know that a donation has been made in their honor.
