Tuesday Ten: February Style Tips

New York Fashion Week starts in 48 hours, and I’m so excited to have my team covering it this year. At our weekly meetings, the girls have been sharing their itinerary and the outfits they’re planning for the fashion-filled weekend ahead. So with fashion week in mind, I thought I would share some style tips that you can try if you’re attending the shows yourself—or if you simply want to put a fresh spin on your February wardrobe.

Take a peek below and see how many of this month’s style tips you can try…

February Style Tips

1. Go wild.
Animal prints are almost always in style, especially during fashion week. Go wild this month by adding a touch of cheetah, zebra, or giraffe print to your ensemble.

February Style Tips

2. Add a little {faux} leather.
A good leather jacket and leather leggings are definitely staples in my closet. But I also love the look of a subtle hint of leather here or there. Find a classic piece with leather accents, like this black sweater with leather pockets.

February Style Tips

3. Opposites attract.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: black and white is one of the most stylish color combos around. This month, go for the classy route and pair these two hues together. Bonus points if you add a pop of Valentine’s red.

February Style Tips

4. Clutch it.
While side bags and totes may be more appropriate if you’re braving the streets of New York for Fashion Week, an oversized clutch is one trend that I consider a “must-try” this month. Find one that holds everything you need, then just grab and go.

February Style Tips

5. Feel all warm and fuzzy.
When braving the cold (or the polar vortex, for that matter) nothing will keep the rest of your body warm like wearing a fuzzy hat on your head. Choose one that comes over your ears to keep out the cold—and pair it with sunnies for a Parisian-chic vibe.

February Style Tips

6. Be the next “knit” girl.
“It” girl? More like “knit” girl. Bundle up in an oversized chunky knit scarf for a look that exudes confidence and comfort. The best part? You can pretty much wear it with anything since it will be the main feature of your entire look.

February Style Tips

7. Go moto.
Moto boots are a popular fave during the winter months, but a moto jacket is one of my favorite ways to transition into spring. The powder blue style above has now been bumped up to the top of my wish list.

February Style Tips

8. Fringe to the floor.
While walking out the door wrapped in a snuggie might be socially unacceptable, wearing a floor-length sweater may very well be the next best thing. Wear it with jeans and heels for a bit of street style drama.

February Style Tips

9. Over and out.
I remember idolizing the character Cher Horowitz in the movie Clueless. I’ll admit it: I loved when she wore a cropped sweater over that button-down with a plaid skirt (this is what I mean). While that exact outfit might not be so “tubular” now, there’s a way to make it more modern. Take a hint from the style blogger behind Peace Love Shea and wear a cropped sweater over a white blouse for a look that’s nostalgic and a little different.

February Style Tips

10. Wear the colors of love.
Last but not least, this month is the month of Valentine’s Day. Incorporate red and pink in your wardrobe as much as it feels right. There’s nothing more fun that feeling festive for a holiday.

I’m smitten with that light blue moto jacket!
