From eating immunity boosting foods to washing your hands, there’s only so much a person can do to keep from getting sick during cold and flu season. But, if one of your loved ones does come down with a bug, I have the perfect thing to cheer them up and help them recover faster. A DIY Get Well Kit is simply a mug filled with all the things that someone would need when they’re under the weather. It’s a simple idea, but it’s a great way to make a friend feel better. The gesture alone will let your friend know that you are thinking of them and lift their spirits. It’s a great thing to deliver along with a big pot of the perfect chicken vegetable soup.

You can customize your Get Well Kit however you like, but I’ve included a list of suggested items below. Once you’ve collected all your items, assemble them inside a mug of your choosing, and tie the whole thing off with cellophane. Just like Lauren’s Blessing Bags for the homeless, you can assemble a few Get Well Kits at once and keep them stashed away until you need them. Trust me, they’ll come in handy this time of year…

Here’s what I put in my DIY Get Well Kit:

  • a pack of tissues
  • Emergen-C or Airborne
  • lip balm
  • tea
  • honey
  • throat lozenges
