In my opinion, every girl needs a pair of black riding boots (or two!) in her wardrobe. Riding boots look chic with practically anything, from denim to dresses—which is the reason I get more wear out of riding boots than any other shoe. Plus, there’s nothing cozier this time of year than slipping on a pair of knee-high leather boots over knit socks and skinny jeans. Now that I think of it, this really is my signature off-duty look in the fall and winter.
Besides being easy to style, black riding boots are timeless. The riding boot’s popularity dates all the way back to 1815 when Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo by The Duke of Wellington. The Duke of Wellington wore riding boots during the battle. And when he gained notoriety, so did his shoe! Nowadays it’s a bona fide classic. Pretty interesting, right?
To save you some time shopping, I’m sharing five of my favorite pairs in the slideshow below. You’ll even spot an LC Lauren Conrad pair in the mix…
1. lc lauren conrad tall riding boots, $60
I practically live in these comfy and classic boots from my Kohl’s collection. Trust me, you will wear them day in and day out.
2. vince camuto kellini boots, $132
The rich brown leather on these two-tone riding boots makes them extremely versatile and easy to style with black or brown clothing (and everything in between).
3. kate spade new york olivia boots, $498
These boots are a splurge, but it’s worth investing in a shoe that hasn’t gone out of style in almost 200 years. And the stud bow detail on this pair is just too cute.
4. sloosh italy gloss with upper harness boots, $195
At first glance, you would never know that these black riding boots are actually rubber wellies. They’ll keep your feet chic and dry in all kinds of weather.
5. frye veronica slouch boots, $328
Frye boots are known to be sturdy and made to last a lifetime. They’re great basic black boots to have in your closet.
