I hope everyone enjoyed our New York Fashion Week coverage on the site last week! But now that we’ve shared all the hair, makeup, and manicure details, I wanted to give you a peek at what it’s really like to attend Fashion Week. Check out my photo (and video!) diary below for a behind-the-scenes look into this beyond major industry event…

I waited until the night before my flight to pack all my Fashion Week essentials… (Any other last-minute packers out there?)

Once I arrived in NYC it was off to my very first show, Kate Spade! You can see more snaps from the show by clicking here.

My next show took me to Fashion Week’s main hub, Lincoln Center. About half of the shows are at Lincoln Center and the other half are at venues all over town.

There was a sign posted outside Lincoln Center with the names of all the designers who were showing there. Can you spot any of your favorite designers?

Most shows have DJs, but the amazingly talented Janelle Monae provided the music for the Rebecca Minkoff show. This video was taken backstage at the rehearsal…

And this video is from the finale at Jill Stuart. It’s a little funny to see just how many people have their phones and cameras out during the show…

I was lucky enough to have backstage access before most of the shows I attended. It’s usually a bit of a mad dash as everyone scrambles to get the models primped before the show. In fact, it’s very common for a model to have makeup artists, hairstylists, and manicurists working to get her ready all at once!

Hair and makeup charts are posted backstage at every show to remind everyone what the final look is…

I took this photo backstage at Tibi… This model had the chicest street style! (I especially adore that quilted Chanel handbag.)

More model street style spotted at Thakoon. Love these studded gladiator sandals…

The finale at Rebecca Taylor…

One of my favorite looks at Trina Turk, round sunnies and all…

Models grooving to the music…

Most days involved a lot of hustle and bustle from show to show. But when I did have an hour to spare between shows, I would park myself at the nearest coffee shop or cute café and fuel up on food while doing some live blogging or Instagramming

Here’s a little peek at my Fashion Week footwear. But I must confess… With all the running around I was doing, I usually lasted no more than an hour in my pumps and then changed into the flats in my bag!

And what would a trip to NYC be without a giant pretzel?

It was so fun seeing all of the shows in New York, but in the end I was glad to be back in sunny Southern California… Ta ta for now, NYC! We’ll see you next season!

P.S. Are you keeping up with the London shows this week? It’s a dream of mine to one day attend a London, Paris, or Milan show one day…
