Naturally I have light brown hair...over the summer I got partial highlights (largely because I wasn't getting enough beach time due to the office) and I really am liking the lightness of my hair. I have an appointment next week to get another partial highlight and was contemplating going a little lighter but am concerned that with the winter months it will: 1. look ridiculously light for the season (i live in nyc) and 2. it will be a pain and a half to keep up with.

I'm thinking the ombre fad would be a subtle way to go a little lighter all around but I'm not a huge fan of fads and am concerned with the upkeep.

Are there any brunettes who can attest to the transition or give insight?
