I think that the biggest trend in skincare right now is the BB cream. But what exactly is it? What are the benefits to your skin? Most importantly what's the best one to get without breaking the bank? Please weigh in on this hot trend. Thanks!

The name 'BB' cream comes from Beauty Balm. It is kinda like a tinted moisturizer, but better. It's a primer, moisturizer, and foundation all in one. It gives a light, natural coverage, but you can build it up easily for more coverage. Or you can put foundation or concealer on over it for fuller coverage. And it typically has sunscreen built it.
I've tried a couple, but my favorites are Smashbox and Maybelline.
The Smashbox is I think $39.95, so it's a bit pricy, but it comes in five different shades, which is (I think) the broadest range on the market. So it matches a lot better with my skin tone. It also gives more coverage than some of the others I've tried. And it's SPF 35.
The Maybelline BB cream is about $8 at any drugstore. It only comes in three shades, but since it's a slightly lighter coverage, it blends really, really well and I think looks much more natural than the Smashbox. And it's SPF 30.
So generally, I use the Maybelline every day, and switch to Smashbox if my skin is a little red or starting to break out to help cover that. Then after the BB cream, I put concealer anywhere I need it, add highlighter, and then I put a finishing powder on because BB creams tend to have sort of a "dew-y" finish, which I don't really like. But with finishing powder on top, it looks really soft and smooth. It's a very natural look, and I love it.
In my experience, the only BB cream I would not recommend is the L'Oreal Magic BB cream. It comes in only 2 shades, and allegedly has smart shade ability, to auto-transform to your perfect color, but to me it doesn't look like it's changing at all. It gives practically no coverage, and it also has what they call 'beauty beads' which just feel gritty, and make it really unpleasant to apply.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a BB cream but it's difficult to find a good one adapted for my black skin. Is anyone has one to recommend me please?

Hey Charlene,
I don't know if you'll be able to find BB cream for black skin. The product actually originated in the Asian market, and a lot of Asian-branded BB creams actually have skin whiteners in them - which is something you would not want! I don't think that any of the American-brand BB creams have whitening ingredients, but just considering where it came from, I don't really expect that there would be a BB cream developed for dark skin. Especially since BB creams are so new to the American market.

Charlene, I work for Clinique and at my counter we have a BB cream. It has your moisturizer, SPF 30 and a makeup all in one. You can wear it as a primer and put your foundation on top of it if you would like or on days that you are just running errands you can just put it on and go out the door. There are 3 shades that you can wear. It goes by skin tones and the third one might work for you. If you are interested in it just find a Clinique counter near you. They can give you a sample to try to see if you would really like it, if you do its $37. I couldn't tell you about any other BB creams just because I have never had the opprotunity to try the others that are out on the market but if you do try the Clinique one please let me know what you think. Here is even my work number if you do have any questions. I am always there. :) (325)691-1014

since Lauren has featured this topic in her post today, I've reread my previous comments, and i need to eat my words!
I've given the L'Oreal bb cream a second chance, and i actually use it as my everyday makeup now. I think previously i was just really turned off by the gritty feeling of it, but once i got over that, and i fully applied it to my whole face, i found that the color matching really works very well. And it has a more matte finish than any other I've tried, which i really like. Plus it's like 8 dollars.

Hi ladies! If you are looking for a full coverage BB Cream, Lioele Triple The Solution is apparently very hot right now. IT is said to cover acne and scarring like no other. I have just ordered one for myself and can't wait to try it out! :) You can get it for $20 on Ebay, and shiping is free! The amazing reviews made me cave in haha! :P

I think BB cream can make our skin looks healthy and beautiful. I need it even though some of them are a little expensive.
