Style Guide: Fall 2012 Color Trends
After spending four grueling/fabulous years carrying around Pantone swatches throughout the not so stylish halls of fashion school, the last thing I thought I would ever do was graduate and become a serious color connoisseur. Nowadays I'm constantly searching for the next must-have shade to add to my wardrobe. Knowing the hot seasonal colors can make shopping a cinch. Not only can you assess the selection from afar but color trends are much easier to adapt into your personal wardrobe then some style trends. This season my three must-wear colors are mustard, oxblood, and cobalt blue.
Mustard
What was once merely a condiment staple is now a runway favorite. From Target to J.Crew you can expect to find fab mustard pieces at every price point and in all of your favorite stores this season. This sunny shade looks fabulous with fall’s palette of earthy tones. Try pairing mustard with rich chocolate or burnt orange to create a fall ensemble with perfect color harmony.

Oxblood
Referred to by some as wine or burgundy, oxblood is without a doubt the queen of color this season. This deep shade is lending its rich hue to sequin party dresses and luxe faux leather jackets. For a pop, pair the trendy hue with mustard or downplay its power with darker shades. Oxblood is such a hot color this season—not only will you be seeing it in fashion and accessories but it’s also lending its deep color to beauty products like lipstick and nail polish.

Cobalt Blue
For my fellow color addicts out there cobalt blue is the vibrant pop of color that will help us remember our color covered summer of neons and pastels. The bold hue even made it onto some of my favorite pieces from Lauren's LC Lauren Conrad collection. Pair this electric color with black and white stripes this fall for a classically chic look. While blending into the crowd may help tame any lingering social anxieties, I urge you all to be brave this season and pick outerwear that is splashed with this fun and vibrant hue.

Love the mustard yellow and burgandy this fall, especially mixing together! I feel like the royal blue is more summer-y but I am totally in love with that coat.

I love all of these colors SO much this season, I hope they stick around for awhile! I just purchased a pair of oxblood skinny jeans (about 5 minutes ago online) and I am so excited about them! So thank you for the suggestions on what colors to wear them with - I never would have thought of pairing the color with mustard, but I'll be sure to give it a try! -Katelyn -

The cobalt reminds me too much of the 1980s, but I love the mustard, and oxblood is universally flattering! I'll be adding the latter two to my wardrobe.
