Perfecting your part is an art that every woman must master at one point or another. Unfortunately, many times our natural parts may not be the best fit for our faces. Now you may be thinking "Why should I care about something as trivial as my part?!" Well ladies, believe it or not, finding the right part for your face shape can have a major impact on your overall look. The wrong part can exaggerate features you may not want to shine the spotlight on, while the right part can trick the eye into focusing on your best assets. To make things easier for you, I've put together a guide to help you find your ideal part based on tips I've picked up over the years... First, which face shape fits you best?

If your face is long or oval...
Side parts are ideal for ladies with longer, narrower faces. By donning an off-center part, you will create the illusion that your face is a tad wider than it actually is. To get the best part for your face, part your hair in line with the arch of the eyebrow on your "best side." If you cannot figure out which side is your "best side," look at yourself straight on in the mirror–if your nose goes slightly to one side (most of our noses do), then part your hair on the opposite side.

If your face is round or square...
Opt for a center part. It will frame your face perfectly and will even it out by making it appear as though your face is slightly longer. Center parts also help define cheekbones and elongate features.

If your face is heart or triangle shaped...
A slightly off-center part is best for those of you with prominent foreheads or chins. By parting your hair just off from the centerline, you will create balance in your features. Again, if you're unsure which side to set your part on, refer to my nose trick (mentioned above for long and oval faces).
I hope you find this post helpful! If you've already got your part on lock, then you're one step ahead of the game. But here's a trick that many of you might not know already: For a flawlessly natural looking part, be sure to create it while you have wet hair so your strands will dry in place. I think it's safe to say that many of us have tried to change our part with dry tresses only to be disappointed by uneven volume. If you stick with this wet part trick, you'll be good to go!

I've tried so many ways to curl my hair, and I just can't seem to get it right. I don't know if it's the products or if certain styles just don't hold in my hair. Either way I would love you help!
Much love❤ -

I have a heart face! I wear my off-center part everyday!
I usually wear them with my favorite vintage button accessories :) So many compliments that I started selling them:

Hi Lauren, i have quite a round/chubby face (especially in the cheeks area). I have thin, slightly wavy long hair and would love to chop it off into a long/medium bob. What do you think or recommend for someone with a face shape like mine? -

I can't figure out my face shape. I think I'm either oval or round. I recently had a side part that wasn't cut well so I switched it to a slightly off centered middle part and I think it looks better. But then I always wonder if it's just me who thinks it looks better but it actually looks terrible! I'll have to trust my friends to say something if it's bad.
Thanks Lauren.

This is great advice! However, how can you really determine what face shape you are? Sometimes I think I'm oval, oblong, and even round! Is there a foolproof way to know this?

I find it hard to work out my face shape.... I think it is round so my hair already suits that per your recommendation

Hi Lauren I have widows peak and a colic in the front and back, any advice on working with either of these? -
I've tried to curl my hair like yours and I've even bought your style and beauty book, but I just can't seem to get it right. If you have any other tips, they would be much appreciated! -
Thank you for this post! It's actually really useful in showing what the different types of face shapes look like. I've tried so many times to work out what my face shape is. All the articles I've looked at before aren't very clear. But these pictures make it really obvious. And now I can rock the best part for my face shape too :) Thanks! -
I have a round face but it looks very weird parted in the middle. I like side parts and bangs on almost everyone!

What if you are oval and round at the same time? For me I find side part to work the best for me. I am trying to do center part but I also do see that i do my part when my hair is dry. I'm growing out my bangs and hoping to see if the center part might work for me again. -
I reallyyyy think what type of hair you have matters too! I have super curly hair and look really odd when I part it in the middle. Usually I just change the direction of it every couple months.

I have a pear face shape with a small forehead and large cheeks Ive been struggling finding a good hair style for awhile now please help me! -
So useful and informative. I kind of just wear my part wherever it ends up on a given day. Though this must be why I look better with a side part :)

This is SUCH a useful post and now it makes complete sense why a center part looks weird on me!

Dear Lauren & Team,
Similar to this "Prime Tip" how do you determine the best hair color for your skin tone? I've tried many but I never know which one works best with my skin? -
Lauren thank you soo much for this post. I've been struggling with this hair issue for years. Whenever i would go to school i hope that 'magic' will happen and i will find my side part. Thank you :) I have one quesion:
Is it safe to part your hair in line in the same side everyday? My mother said you should switch the area of parting your hair (for example i have an oval face so i have to part it sometimes left and sometimes right). What do you say? HOpefully yuo will see this question.
If not thank again :)) Can't wait for more post like this! -
I have a round face, and center part would definitely be my last choice because it makes my face appear even wider! -
i have a round face and always thought that a center doesn't fit .. but thanks good to know :) xx -
