Photo Diary: Fashion Week Edition!
Hi everyone, it’s Alex from Team LC. I hope all of you have been enjoying our New York Fashion Week coverage. Over the past week we’ve seen enough manicures and makeup to make any beauty junkie swoon. But what happens behind-the-scenes of Fashion Week? Well, I am going to share just that with you today! The day I arrived in NYC I was greeted with the following text from a local friend: “Blizzard potential this weekend—pack accordingly!” Of course, it was too late… The white out had begun!
The news about the blizzard led me to invest in my very first full-body puffer coat. Not exactly chic for Fashion Week, but absolutely necessary!
Since I was planning on doing a lot of backstage beauty coverage (which you can check out here, here, and here), I decided to keep my looks as fashionably comfortable a possible: leather leggings, buttoned up oxford tops, tan booties, and of course, my newly beloved puffer made up my Fashion Week uniform.
I was lucky enough to be part of Elle Magazine & Hudson Jeans #LETYOURSELFGO blogger program (along with a few of our other favorite fashion bloggers, Song of Style and Eat Sleep Wear). The #LETYOURSELFGO campaign is such a cool idea—basically, if you tag your best #LETYOURSELFGO moments on Instagram you will be automatically entered for a chance to win cash, jeans, or even a trip to London….pretty sweet, right?
Since I was on-the-go everyday, eating a proper lunch was nearly impossible so I relied on protein bars and plenty of snacks (including some not-so-healthy nibbles like gummy bears).
Before the shows started, I would pop backstage and take snapshots of interesting beauty looks—hair, makeup, and nails. I would also chat with the lead stylists about “the look,” inspirations, and which they products used.
At one point, I stopped by the BCBG/Herve Leger headquarters downtown and got to be a part of the hair and makeup tests. Typically, a day or two before a designer debuts their collection, they will call in their beauty teams to create the perfect look to compliment the new line. During these makeup tests, models are dressed in a look from the collection and then go through various iterations of the same beauty look until a final decision is made. It’s really a fascinating process because you get to see how calculated every single decision is that goes into the overall creative process.
Then it’s back to the shows.
While most shows are presented in a runway format, more and more designers are doing “presentations” where the models are placed around a room and spectators can walk up to them to take photos or inspect the garments. In fact, you might have noticed that Kate Spade did a presentation!
At most runway shows, you get your seating assignment, sit for about 15 to 20 minutes (because shows always start late), watch the show for about as long as you waited (or less), and then the second the show ends everyone pops up out of their seats and makes a mad dash for the door. I always find this race funny. But I suppose like me, everyone else is in a hurry to get to other shows since they are often booked back-to-back.

All in all, it was a very successful trip and I am already looking forward to all of the fun fashions and beauty looks that will be in stores for fall. I hope you enjoyed this little peek into Fashion Week!

I went to the Chado Ralph Rucci show Sunday and it was AMAZING. Miss J. Alexander was a few rows away though and didn't seem very excited about the wrist tassels and lace-up boots.... I can't wait to experience more shows next season! Hope to see you there!! <3
P.s. the Maybelline vending machine was out by the time I made it to the tents :'( And I was so excited after I saw your Instagram! Drat. Oh well, next time :) -

Love this post! How exciting, glamorous, and hectic all at the same time! It really is amazing to think of all of the work and manpower it takes to prepare for just a few minutes on the runway :)
