Happy Fashion Week guys! We hope you're enjoying Lauren's Fashion Week Diary series along with our most recent post covering all the backstage happenings over at BCBG. Today we're giving you an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek of all the fabulousness, fashion and fun that went down behind the runway at the Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2013 runway show...
To get things started, we caught up with the designer herself, Rebecca Minkoff, and got the lowdown on her road to success, the inspirations behind her newest collection and her tips to fellow fashion lovers. Below is our exclusive interview with the designer!
Team LC: When did you first fall in love with fashion?
Rebecca Minkoff: I guess it was when I was little. I remember being four years old and my uncle being like "I think you're going to be a fashion designer because you're always putting together kooky outfits.
Team LC: What inspired you to start your own line?
RM: I think that it was a fantasy that I had and then I decided that if I was going to work this hard I didn't want to be doing it for someone else.
Team LC: Let's talk about your new collection that you will be showing us today. What are three words to describe it?
RM: Sexy. Tomboy. Bon vivant.
Team LC: And what is the major trend that you will be showcasing in the collection?
RM: Flared pants!
Team LC: Love it! Okay, last question: What is the best tip you could give an aspiring fashion designer?
RM: Be prepared to work your butt off. And not get a lot of sleep. It's not for the faint of heart.
How cool is Rebecca? She was honestly so nice, and totally down to earth. (Swoon.) We don't know about you but we love meeting people like this in the fashion industry :-)
After we got the scoop from Miss Minkoff, we bopped around backstage. Here are a few of our favorite snapshots...
The clothing corral:
Our model crush, Hillary Rhoda, getting her nails glossed with Essie "Candy Apple" before the show:

And here is a shot of the finished product... Love!
The models and their hair assignments:

We loved the messy side braid...
And the makeup was too cool. We love the pop of electric teal at the inner corners of the eyes.

Did you know that designers meticulously select an order for the show, often premiering and concluding with their strongest looks? It's called the "run of show."
To make sure every model is prepared, the music is cued correctly, and everyone is on the same page, they do a run-through right before the show. Here the models are all lined up (clad in their assigned Rebecca Minkoff heels) for the run-through:

During the run-through, "backstage dressers" (these are the people who help the models get dressed in their garments for each look during the show) steam the clothes to make sure they are wrinkle free. (If you ask us, this is brilliant. Steaming is definitely the way to go. So easy, so fast, and way better than ironing... Industry secret!)
Once the models are all made up and dressed in their freshly steamed clothes, it's show time!

Eeeks! It's all so genius! I love the tomboy flare to the hair, and the bit of turquoise on the eyes and nails is a gorgeous little pairing. I'm totally going to use the teal on my own.
