(Re)Work It: One Perfect Party Dress, 5 Ways to Wear it for the Holidays
Earlier this year, we showed you how to wear the same dress to more than one wedding, and while the rules still hold true, it's time to shift your thinking to the holiday party season. The notion of splurging on multiple dresses is kind of ridiculous with all the events to attend and gifts to buy. Instead, we're styling up the fantastic, party-ready T by Alexander Wang Stretch-Sateen Jersey Dress ($260) five different ways — for each of your upcoming holiday soirees. From dinner with the family to cocktails with co-workers, click through now to see and shop the multitude of ways you can wear one basic black dress.
Black-Tie Bash
Don't think for a second that you can't wear a semi-short dress to a black-tie party; all you have to do is class it up with a ladylike jacket, sparkly statement earrings, and a killer pair of heels — definitely something with shine.

Shop this look:
- T by Alexander Wang Stretch Sateen Jersey Dress ($260)
- Shourouk Drop Earrings ($425)
- By Malene Birger Irlaisa Feather and Satin Jacket ($1,150)
- Proenza Schouler High-Heeled Sandals ($908)
- L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in British Red ($9)
Family Dinner
Add some flair to your family party look with a pair of polka-dot tights — they're a cool twist on basic black, and give off a fun, festive vibe. Go with one standout accessory, like an oversize cocktail ring.

Shop this look:
- Erickson Beamon Blue Nile Cocktail Ring ($380)
- Marc Jacobs Gold Pouch ($70)
- Free People Geneva Dot Tights ($24)
- Reiss Bailly D-Ring Booties ($370)

Cocktails With the Crew
A night out with the girls — enjoying cocktails, exchanging gifts — calls for something sleek and super-stylish. We love how the long-sleeve dress looks when topped with a shaggy faux fur vest, and along with sexy cage heels and a rose gold cuff, it's a look that's nothing short of breathtaking.

Work Soiree
Here's a great way to marry office sophistication with a hint of downtown-cool — top your dress with a crisp white tuxedo jacket, then add a knockout necklace and sleek cap-toe heels. A bright bag will give off a fun, confident vibe.

Thank you for this post! I love the faux fur vest over the black dress-so unexpected. Very cute. -
Love them all, but not very wearable in Brazil :(((( It's very hot here most of the year... -
This post is a bit ridiculous...it would be way cheaper to buy multiple dresses than to spend over $1000 on a jacket. A more ideal way to do this post would be to pair the dress with inexpensive items, since the point of it is to not splurge on multiple dresses. -
Great post! I love the outfits, but the items are way too expensive for my wallet.. I might try to re-create them :)

I agree with Stephanie! These outfits are great, but I wish Lauren would choose more affordable choices. Not all of us can afford $400 earrings! -
