When it comes to entertaining, I'm constantly on the lookout for creative ways to keep things fresh and fun. So when I saw this DIY chalkboard serving dish on Pinterest, I knew I had to try it out for myself in a Crafty Creations video. Add your own flair to this customized serving platter by labeling your items du jour. Whether you're serving up gourmet cheeses or crisp crudit's, this DIY is sure to add that personal touch that your guests will love. Check out the simple steps in my video below:
To recap, here's what you will need:
- white serving platter
- painter's tape
- chalkboard paint
- paintbrush
- chalk
This serving dish will come in handy for upcoming holidays, and it's also the perfect gift to give a hostess. You can try mixing things up by using a colorful tray and neon chalk to add a burst of color to your spread. (Orange and black for Halloween, anyone?)
Will you try this DIY? What hors d'oeuvres will you serve on your chalkboard tray?
Leave your photos, ideas, and inspirations in the comments below so I can check them out :-)
Happy Crafting, ladies!
XO Lauren

Hi. I made two cheeseboards recently. Thank you so much for showing off this great craft.

I know this has nothing to do with cheese... However, it is a questions that I REALLY need answered. With Holliday parties quickly approaching, i find myself getting into huge arguments with my mom about tablecloths. I find her busy-styled patterns clashing with the patterns on her dinnerware and fine china. Also, I believe her tables are so beautiful in their natural setting that the tablecloths are only taking away from their look, not helping them. Can you PLEASE give me a tablecloth compromise so that my mom and I are both pleased with the outcomes of the table decor? Thank you! -Mary Katherine from Birmingham, Alabama

This is a cute idea, but chalkboard paint is not food safe! It says on the safety sheet that highly acidic things react with it, so if you were to put citrus on there, no good.
There should have been a last step in this which is to clear coat it with a food safe clear coating that can be found in craft stores.
It's also not dishwasher safe, or good for high temperatures. Always read the Materials Safety Data Sheet on paints/chemicals before using them, especially around food items!

Cute idea! I think I would only use it with wrapped food, though. I can't get the taste of chalk out of my mind with loose food, lol. And is this paint dishwasher safe?

Hi !
My Pinterest inspiration was when I saw this gorgeous poster: http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/upload/170785010839551945_1pLMc5vT_c.jpg but I couldn't find it to buy anywhere...
So I made my own! I painted a chevron print in the background with watercolours as well http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/302503_251573574965531_349383753_n.jpg

Great idea! I love it:) I would probably put a mixture of fruits on my plate. I think that would look so pretty. But for Halloween, it would be cool to paint it orange and black and put halloween cookies on it! Thanks Lauren!
