Beauty Note: Kiss & Makeup
When it comes to lips this season, the fall 2011 runways were a bit two-faced. While many designers such as Missoni, Gucci and Diane von Furstenberg lead the pack with bold bordeaux lips, others including Chanel, Alexander McQueen, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Stella McCartney countered with contrasting pouts in shades of nude. 
Red lips also made an appearance on the runways at Jil Sander, Miu Miu and Ralph Lauren. Needless to say, the fashion frontrunner is definitely Missoni's rich merlot, plum tinged lip.
While bold is beautiful, it is also intimidating. The best way to take your lips to the dark side is by keeping the rest of your makeup understated. I prefer bold lipstick for evening outings. Burgundy pouts are particularly ideal for girls' nights. I can assure you, vampy red pouts are not exactly date friendly. Need I say total man-repeller? And no girl wants to see her man sporting a Missoni kisser either... Anyway, I love to wear a deep red lip with winged eyeliner. It's a classic look that's perfectly glamorous and appropriate for nighttime.
To get the "it lip" of the season, try the lipstick Missoni models donned during the fall runway show: MAC lipstick in Media. Apply the lipstick with the same steps listed in this red lip tutorial. And voila–rich, sultry, fashion-forward lips are yours in a snap.

NO, I like more natural...even 60s look..like pink or natrual colors...sometimes a dark shade can look too "OLD"..or victorian..

I think I will definitely give it a try soon! I'm attending a wedding this weekend, but can't decide if it's too much for "wedding guest makeup". I may just go for it, while definitely "keeping the rest of my makeup understated" =)

I love wearing dark lipsticks...burgundy, red, dark pinks...or magenta... its hard to find the perfect pinks though... but right now I'm starting my Fall with violet and plum lipsticks and burgundy evenings... ;)

Great post! I don't think it's vampire-like at all... It's very chic! Fashion is all about taking chances and trying out new styles--and the same goes for beauty trends : ) I'm going to give this a try once it gets a little cooler... maybe for a night out with my girls like you suggested!

I usually eat my lipstick off so it hasn't been practical for me to wear it. LOL But I LOVE doing nude lips!

The problem with this kind of lipstick, is that no skin imperfection are allowed or forgiven when worn!
This usually emphasize my pimples on top of that every time a zit shows up, it is ALWAYS the wrong place (and not to mention the wrong MOMENT!), in the middle of my chin, right in the middle of my nose or on my forehead.... (Well I have a bang so I can hide this one!!) To me this is pretty only for someone having a perfect skin! AND someone that has confidence because it stands out!

Clinque's Black Honey is also a great burgandy shade...it's my favorite. You apply a little for day and apply heavier for night. I always get compliments on it.
