On January 1st I made quite a few resolutions for 2012. While I have high hopes and good intentions of maintaining them, usually by the end of February I almost always give up... or more accurately, forget. Now that I have this blog I've made the executive decision to stick to my guns and make my New Year's resolutions last. And when I say last, I mean right up until midnight on December 31st 2012.
Here's how I'm going to do it:
- I made sure my resolutions are things that can be measured or checked off. They are all realistic and definitely attainable. I did this because whenever I make vague resolutions like, "Take more chances!" they end up being grandiose statements, which I never follow through with...
- I wrote them down right here. I remember things better this way. (Plus you guys can remind me about them too! Please?)
- I am going to re-read them once a month by setting a reminder on my phone. I don't know if this is the best idea. It will probably get annoying. At least this way I won't be able to escape them until they've been accomplished!
Do you have any other tips to help me keep my resolutions? Share them in the comments below. I bet all of us could use the extra motivation and help!
XO Lauren

@Jenna. I plan on doing something similar but I plan to put the vision board above my bed since that wall is the most visual one in my room

I love this! I am getting married on April 14th and I have recently lost 70lbs! I am 5'3 and down to126lbs. I have been working my butt off (literally) and I am loving my skinnies. I am going to follow this meal plan so I look my very best in my bikini when we go to Hawaii for our honeymoon.
I have been saving up to buy your Ella dress to take with me. I actually considered getting married in it. I LOVE IT!!! Hopefully I can still get one! :) -
Oo! I am actually making a new year's resolution-- I am going to take a photo every day! :)
What my mom gave me for Christmas-- a suitcase table! :)

I think I also need improvement in sending out Thank You notes but would really like to stick to my exercise routine to tone my body with out flacking and forgetting my goal. Spending quality time with my family, organizing, remodeling my home and make sure I stay in touch with my True real friends that have been there for me through rough times. Friendship, loyalty and Honesty are key in my life:)

Hi Lauren! Same here, I plan to really stick to my New Year's Resolution this year by creating a vision/inspiration board filled with pictures and images of my goals. I read online that this is a simple yet poweful visual tool that fuels the law of attraction to turn your dreams into reality. Make sure you place it somewhere where you can always see it. I'm going to place mine right across the wall where I use my laptop since this is where I spend most of time! Cheers to 2012! :D

I wrote my resolutions on a notecard with a pretty Sharpie pen. Then I put it in a cute tin box and set it on my dresser as a decoration. Every morning, whether I'm putting on jewelry or perfume, I am reminded of my resolutions!

Have the resolutions stitched and frame it and. It can add to your decor while also reminding you! -

my friend has an inspiration board to keep her motivated. she has clippings of places she wants to go, clothing she wants to buy and the number of the size she needs to get in shape to fit into those clothes, and she has motivational quotes and sayings on sticky notes on her mirror closet door... so every morning when she wakes up she will see that certain quote that will motivate her to do a certain something that day. i think i am going to do the same thing and i will also post my resolutions on that board and keep a log!!!

Started reading this great book called "The Happiness Project" I picked it up right before New Years, not knowing that is was a book based on one woman's resolutions for the new year- how perfect I thought? The concept is to start with one resolution, and then add one each month and try to keep up wth all of them. She also wrote them down, and rated herself on how well she was keeping up with them (she said Benjamin Franklin had done this with his 12 virtues.) Loving the book so far. One of the things I like most, is that it's not this depressed woman going on this extravagent and unaffordable (to the average person) journey. Like you had commented, they are things that are attainable and realistic. She is actually a very happy person, in love with her husban, living in New York City but who found herself snapping at her husband/the gardner in times when she shouldn't. Why not be HappiER?

i usually write it on my planner where I know I will come across it to remind me.
Also, I think that your phone idea will come in handy(: it will help you to stay focused! If i had a cellphone I would do the same! ^.^

I've made cute decorative posters so I can put the date and my weight so I can see my progress. That way I have a reminder just incase I'm slacking on the workout part! Plus I've put little post-its on my mirror as little reminders for when I get ready.

This is great advice! Plus your closet cleaning once a month has inspired me! That is going on my list :)
Thanks Lauren!

I am starting at FIDM, in Los Angeles, in the fall. This is my absolute dream! My resolution is to not lose sight of this dream and to stay focused with it. I as well keep things written down, it helps a lot and keeps me on track. -
I totally know what you mean! I think writing your resolutions down and then reviewing them every so often is what helps the best : )

As an avid runner...signing up for a race is the ultimate motivator. You paid good money for your race...you don't want it to go to waste by not preparing or finishing. Remember...if it's your first...no matter what/where you finish it's a PR (personal record)!! Splurge a little bit and buy some cute workout tops and shorts or go out on a limb and get a nice pair of running shoes! Another great reason to hit the ground...you just paid for new shoes...don't let them collect dust in the box!!!!! Another important thing to remember...ANYONE can say "I think I'll run a 5k"...what makes you the bigger person is YOU put in the time for training, eating clean, and sticking with it. YOU got up early on race day...YOU stepped up to the starting line...and YOU FINISHED!!!! when you think you've got nothing left to give...remember what all you've put into the race and all you'll give up if you quit!!!! :) good luck to all my fellow runners out there...set a PR and BEAT it in your next race!!! xxoo -B -
My mom and I have both been wanting to get back into shape. We start running, and we do really well, but then life happens, and we're thrown out of it. For me, eating better is always paired with getting into shape. And the same thing always happens. I'm not large by any means, but it's really important to be to be healthy. So, we signed up for our first ever 5k in March to really push ourselves into staying on track with our running. Public humiliation is a good motivator.

what i try to do is i pin up my resolution on somewhere i look everyday like the bathroom mirror. my resolution is to lose weight so i hung up a bikini in my closet and i think how i can reach my goal everyday. i liked your idea of setting a reminder on your phone because you will always have that with you
good luck lauren and to everyone else!
