Tuesday Ten: March Style Tips

Happy Tuesday! Just as I always do at the beginning of each month, today I am going to be sharing some of my favorite seasonal style tips for you to try. March is a transitional time, so you will notice that I’m drawn to looks that involve layering but hint at the arrival of spring. Without further ado, here are my March style ideas…

1. Try a layered silhouette.
A layered silhouette not only gives off cool, casual vibes, but it’s also the perfect way to ensure you can stay the right temperature during the fluctuating spring weather. Try wearing a fitted pencil skirt with a light sweater over a chambray top. And when the sun comes out, go ahead and peel off the top layer…and enjoy the weather!

2. Find a reason to blush.
This spring, I’m going bananas for blush. It’s such a pretty feminine color, and it’s so close to a neutral that it goes with almost anything. This blush dress is such a pretty look for the season ahead.

3. Lighten up.
Swap your grays and blacks for lighter hues this season. That black skirt you’ve been wearing to work almost every day? Wear a white one instead. The dark patterns that have been your go-tos? Shed a little more light on them. Literally.

4. Get out your gems.
I love the idea of walking out the door wearing no jewelry except for big, sparkly statement earrings. I’m usually more of a ring or necklace person, but I’m thinking that this month is a good time to break out of that mold.

5. Stay warm in white.
If you live in a place that still has snow on the ground, there are still plenty of ways to dress for spring and be warm at the same time. Take a style note from With Love From Kat and pair white jeans with a camel overcoat for the perfect transitional look.

6. Try a messy braid.
One of the best ways to accessorize a chic outfit is by creating a unique hairstyle. I love trying new things with my own tresses, and this messy braid from Barefoot Blonde is surely next on my “to-try” list.

7. Go for a color scheme.
While going monochrome has been all the rage for a few seasons now, I actually like to put a twist on this trend by throwing in a similar-colored pattern that creates an overall color scheme. Think: light pink sweater paired with pink and black printed pants.

8. Round it out.
This month I’m going to be spotlighting some of my favorite styles of sunnies (be sure to keep an eye out for that post!), and rounded frames are definitely topping my list. I was inspired when I saw these round lenses with a perky ponytail on Gal Meets Glam.

9. Impress in ivory.
If you’re a West Coast gal, you are very aware that we have been having days that feel like the dead of winter back-to-back with days that feel like the middle of July. Be prepared for warm March days with an ivory tuxedo dress and a chic black hat to top it all off a la Always Judging.

10. Look ladylike in leather.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: leather pieces are best worn with a ladylike ensemble. It creates a balance between edgy and feminine that I love. That said, why not wear a pretty printed dress with a leather jacket? It’s the perfect look for spring.

    I
love the idea of the pencil skirt with a light color sweater! I live in San Francisco and the idea
of lighting up my style (I’ve been wearing my typical black suit pants to work
almost every other day, I know, crazy!) sounds like a must for me to do. I’m
going to try #1, #3 and #5 all together first

I like your idea of cold weather wear & what to wear if there is still snow on the ground where you live. It’s -14 out right now where I live. If I wore a little pair of strappy shoes my feet would have to be amputated from exposure. Then what would I wear my seasonably inappropriate shoes on?

Sounds like someone needs to move…

I once had white jeans, but never doing that again. I’m just so afraid of making my white clothing (unless it’s a basic tee or something) dirty.. and I’m such a klutz that it is bound to happen!

Love these tips! I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I just started working in a Boutique and I’m having a hard time finding a shoe that is fashionable but also something I can stand in for 6 hours. Any suggestions?
