Backstage Beauty: Spring 2014 Manicure Madness

The Fashion Week coverage continues today here on LaurenConrad.com. I’ve shared some of my favorite hair and makeup looks from NYFW this week, and now it’s time to move on to the manicures. From creative Day of the Dead-inspired nail art to a pearly polish shade fit for a Parisian socialite, here are some of the prettiest polish looks I spotted backstage at New York Fashion Week…

Backstage Beauty: Spring 2014 Manicure Madness

Kate Spade
To create the cap-toe shoe-inspired nails at Kate Spade, Deborah Lippmann nail technicians started with the Gel Lab Base Coat and then applied two coats of Pseudo Silk Kimono (a milky white “matteen” shade launching in November). The tip of each nail was painted with Bad Moon Rising (the pewter shade, launching in October), followed by an accent strip in It’s Raining Men (red), Groove Is In The Heart (pink) or Walking on Sunshine (lemon).

Tibi
The minimalist nail art at Tibi was chic, simple, and easy to recreate. For this look, manicurists started with JINsoon Power Coat, then applied two coats of a blue-gray from JINsoon’s upcoming collection, and then added vertical and horizontal lines using a nail art brush dipped in JINsoon Obsidian.

Lela Rose
Butter London created the nail look for Lela Rose’s Spring 2014 collection using Butter London Nail Foundation for the base coat and Lady Muck on the half moon.

Rebecca Minkoff
Manicurists at Rebecca Minkoff asked themselves, “What would Frida Kahlo wear?” when creating this Mexican folk art inspired look. The creamy coral base color is Essie’s Tart Deco.

Thakoon
Thakoon’s Spring 2014 collection was filled with light reflecting details like crystal chains, metallic lace, and pearl straps. The nails were no exception, painted with Morgan Taylor’s Adorned in Diamonds, a pearlescent pale pink fit for a Parisian socialite.

Trina Turk
At Trina Turk’s Spring 2014 show, models nails were painted in the Julep for Trina Turk white designed to complement the Fall 2012 collection. The pedicures were painted with Hayden and the quirky horizontal stripe on the big toe was the color Bethany. Since backstage prep must move quickly, nail technicians depended on the Freedom Polymer Top Coat, which can be cured under a lightbulb like a gel polish and lasts for about a week.

Jill Stuart
What pairs better with tousled waves and a bold, glossy eye than Essie’s almost-black After School Boy Blazer? There was simply no other color choice for Jill Stuart’s “rockstar girlfriend on holiday”-inspired collection.
