Good Eats: 6 Busy Girl Snacks

While Team LC has shared our busy girl breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas, today’s post will cover the bite-size variety—our favorite snacks for the girl on the go. Throughout this Busy Girl series, we’ve shared recipes that are easy to make for a busy week ahead. But today, I’m going to give you the tools so that you can customize your very own snacks in a snap (yes, you!). Whether you have a sweet tooth or a savory craving, whipping up one of these healthy bites will help to get you through a long and busy week ahead.

Without further ado, here is my recipe chart for creating the perfect grab-and-go snack…Good Eats: 6 Busy Girl Snacks

The best thing about these snacks is that you can create six completely different options with the ingredients pictured above. This will ensure that your groceries won’t go to waste, and your healthy snacks will keep your taste buds interested all weekend long. Each snack is low calorie and a great source of protein from hummus, peanut butter, or light cheese. Just add the toppings and you have a flavorful mid-day treat.

Here is a breakdown of the snacks and serving sizes:

Carrots and Celery with Hummus:

  • 3 small carrots
  • 3 small celery sticks
  • ¼ cup regular hummus
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper

Celery with Peanut Butter and Raisins:

  • 6 small celery sticks
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • 1 handful raisins

Apples with Peanut Butter and Raisins:

  • 5 apple slices
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • 1 handful raisins

Apples with Cheese and Grapes:

  • 5 small apple slices
  • 3 slices of light cheese (try Swiss cheese, goat cheese, or light cheddar)
  • 8 grapes

Crackers with Cheese and Grapes:

  • 7 water crackers or 5 whole wheat crackers
  • 3 slices of light cheese (try Swiss cheese, goat cheese, or light cheddar)
  • 8 grapes

Crackers with Tuna Salad and Cucumbers:

  • 7 water crackers or 5 whole wheat crackers
  • 1 scoop of low-mayo tuna salad (we like to mix dill, light mayo and a little mustard to make ours)
  • 5 cucumber slices

You can make each snack by combining the base ingredients with the second ingredient, then adding the toppings. Simple as that. My favorite option is the apples with peanut butter and raisins, but you’ll have to try them all to decide on which one you like best.

Which one of these Busy Girl Snacks will you make first?

Enjoy!

xx

My mom used to make me celery boats all of the time as a snack! :) another version she would do is with cream cheese, rather than peanut butter. I wonder if this would still be healthy if using a light cream cheese? Yum!

If they don’t list the calories then you can try this site! http://caloriecount.about.com/

It counts calories and other nutrition facts for fresh foods, processed ones, and sometimes restaurant meals. (:

I’m trying all of them execpt the carrots and celery with hummus. I tried hummus once and I just couldn’t digest it. Don’t know if anyone knows of any good hummus receipes but the one I had I just couldn’t take the taste of it. I will probably replace this idea with Nutella or Peaunt Butter. =)

Calories are the last thing you should be worrying about – as long as they’re what I like to call “”healthy calories,”” there’s nothing to be afraid of! Eat on, girlfriend!

Very informative text … it seems like a great service for busy people who want to eat healthy but short of the time/skills to prepare healthy meals every day of the week. Thanks for sharing it!

  • Elfiegirl

Reminds me of when I was a kid, my mom would make these snacks for me all the time <3

  • Michelle

I can’t imagine someone crunched for time counting grapes one by one. That’s just obsessive compulsive :)

Nice blog! I always been searching for an interesting stuff like, you have shared here. It’s a pleasure to read such a great blog post. Special thanks to you, great job!

OMG, if I ate like this all the time, I would be a size zero! Yes, it looks nice and you can wear anything you like or even don’t like and look good, but blimey! I’d rather be happy and worry about more important things rather than how many grapes I have! For lunch for example, I’ll have whole can of tuna and 2 tortilla wraps! And I dont’ feel bad about it at all! I am unbearable when I’m hungry! :D xx
